Maybe I am too much of a conspiracy theorist, but something Michael C Wrigt said yesterday on ESPN 1000.
He eluded to the fact that Emery is so tight lipped about contract stuff that he would not be shocked if some of these deals were already done and they were not going to announce them.
I got the read that it was a tactical advantage if teams thought the Bears were not going to he involved or have the money to bid.
It would fit the Emery CIA mentality.

I think it lends itself well to good strategy and less like JA. I certainly hope that is the case.

I can see it as if Emery gives away any info other teams could know or extrapolate on what exactly they are able to do cap wise or know that they could easily be outbid or know what players could be cut and wait and not offer trade for possibly.

I think teams know exactly who we want cause our needs or so damn obvious for over six years now. Agents are going out there looking for the last dollar not the best fit. Patriots and Saints announced all their restructures so are they at a disadvantage? I think they havent made any real moves yet. Im sure they are in discussions. Another thing maybe we are just wrong on how much cap space we really have

My quick calculations for savings
Forte [3]
Marshall [5]
Tillman [5]
Peppers [3]
Cuts
Davis [1.5]
Hester [2]
Spaeth [1]

One reason he's never become a half way decent WR is the worthless WR coach we've had for about 7 years. Who did Drake ever develop? Let Hester go back to concentrating on his return game and get that back in sync. We get far more benefit from him there than anywhere.
Then if Trestman can find ways to sneak him into the offense in ways that create a huge mismatch or as a periodic deep threat then we'll have the benefit of seeing if he can contribute better this year then he did last and if not his contract is up and we move on. He's worth what he's getting on the outside chance that he's still got some magic left in him.

I wouldn't quarrel with that thought one bit. Emery is a pretty shrewd operator and he shuns attention unless he has something specific to relate to everyone and then the detail he goes into is mind boggling.
When there's something to be said and it's time to say it he will and in the meantime keeping the league and everyone else guessing about his cap situation is nothing but an advantage. That's the scout in him only telling the guys he's working for how he really feels about a prospect.
To us our situation doesn't look good but if there's anyone who can pull off some unexpected surprises with no prior notice of intent then it's him. The trade for BMarsh should have been and indicator of that.

thought about Emery just not releasing anything too... He's that type of guy.
Not against keeping Hester. He can be seen as Legend with his numbers on the return game.
