DJ Moore informed he is gone
@vxmcclure23: Bears officially inform D.J Moore he is no longer in the team's plans. Might be the start of other roster changes.

Looks like Emery has finished some evaluations and has decided to start making cuts.

Keep going, Phil. And get to work on extending Peanut & Jennings.

I suppose nobody would give a 5th or 6th for an undersized nickel corner. Good luck DJ.

He was much more of a ballhawk than Hayden, who I thought just plain sucked, but he has a very limited coverage range and the fact that he can't cover the outside makes him expendable because of lack of versatility. Gotta spend more than a late round flyer at the position this year, IMO, it's by far our most overlooked need position in terms of depth.

As you said he can play nothing other than nickle back and he runs his mouth.
Bowman should be re-signed he played really well last season on defense and special teams and he has experience starting on the outside.
With Bowman, Frey and McManis I like some of our young depth.

Bowman is utter garbage in coverage, he was made to look a fool much more often than not and I'd rather we grab a kid who may actually serve a purpose greater than ST tackling. Love McManis, but I've seen nothing out of Frey to even call him depth at this point. Even McManis had his trouble in coverage in Houston according to fans and is just another member of the late round maybe-will-bloom pack, so plain and simple, our young depth is rather garbage.

The problem is that we have too much garbage all over our roster. It's going to come down to how much can be fixed. Our needs far outstrip our available draft resources, and don't have a boatload of cap space for FA.
Trestman - Kromer - Tucker - DeCamillis
I'm looking forward to seeing these guys coach. Hope they're good.

Our 22 spot depth is really no different than it is all around the league. Other than OL and QB, I don't see any position with weaker backups than CB.
Let's break it down.
QB-weak depth
HB-good depth
FB-a kid who started almost every game there, learning lead-blocking largely on-the-fly and one of the easiest to fill.
TE-We lack a starter. Spaeth stepped up his blocking from a year ago, though, and I like Adams as a third with Erod.
OL-All-around awful
WR-Three good players in their respective roles and Hester. We all want a field-stretcher, which can come easily in FA or the draft, but our current staff is still a hell of a lot better than what we have behind our starting CBs and much easier to fill with later talent and cheaply in FA.
DE-Solid and young
DT-Melton and role players, not great but far from awful. Paea and Collins were both quality guys for us last season. I've said all along that I want an upside athlete added there in the draft and a solid FA.
CB-Peanut and TJ, then a canyon-sized dropoff in proven play and capability. Not to mention Peanut's age. Hayden was garbage on the outside and I barely even want him back at vet minimum.
LB-Entirely depends on Urls. If he's back, I'm good with our depth of Thomas and Hayes (assuming he's back) on the outside with Roach maintaining MLB backup duties (assuming he's back), but adding young talent is still a must. Regardless, losing Urls last season and seeing our D keep up is proof enough that our depth is alright if intact.
S-Very young and largely unproven, but Steltz solidifies the experience factor, Walters flashed solid play and Hardin is legit talent.

This is a spot Emery should look at filling in FA. He says he'd like to have Hayden back but we should be able to do better. What we could really use is a Tim Jennings type clone. Pound for pound I think he's the toughest SOB on that team.
There should be some undersized CBs in both FA and the draft who might be good fits. Will the player formerly known as the "Honey Badger", Tyrann Mathieu be around in the 4th, 5th or 6th and has he cleaned up his act enough to be worth a gamble. He's got almost ideal size and speed for the position.
Who on the UFA list fits the description of an undersized but tough CB?
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.
Honey Badger Don't Care. Honey Badger Don't Give a Shit.
