    Bears Re-Signings News

Free agent DL Israel Idonije says his "priority" is to re-sign with the Bears.

"My priority is to stay here and enjoy these next few years in Chicago with my friends, my family and with my organization," said Idonije. GM Phil Emery has already expressed interest in bringing the 32-year-old versatile lineman back, so it sounds like something can be worked out.

Can confirm report by @LouCanellis that Brian Urlacher's agents submitted contract proposal to Bears today and waiting for counter offer.

I would hope it can. Izzy is a very good but not great player and a very high character guy. He also has family and if I'm not mistaken also business and charitable interests based in Chicago. He's given his entire career to the Bears and has never been a big dollar guy yet he's produced when give the chance. I don't think the team should lose a player like him while he's still productive and last year he proved that he still is.

I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

like always, it's about the money.

I'm sure that Izzy would take the money he could get elsewhere if it would be really a big difference in money (double salary for example)

No it's not always about the $ especially with the high character guys. Izzy is one of those and the Bears recognize that. He will be extended and at a fair price. He wants to retire a Bear and will be given the opportunity to do so. I don't know how you read $ into this at all.

Izzy will re-sign for cheaper than we all think because he wants to be in Chicago.

Have you noticed how active he is in the media these days?

He is setting himself up for a TV gig after football where he will make up the difference in the money he is leaving on the table. He is an incredibly intelligent guy and has been planning the next phase for years.

lol, so it may be all about the money, just in this case about the *long term* money. I hope that is all true.

I played with Izzy in college, but I have not seen him since his kids camp last season.

He loves Chicago and the Bears and I think he has been incredibly smart with his money and his business connections in Chicago. I would be SHOCKED if he took more money to leave.

Thats awesome inside info, Windy. I really like Izzy and he's a bargain in that scenario. Not a pro bowler but still a solid vet guy (on/off the field) who can play both inside and out. Valuable and I hope he stays another 2 years or so.

And so would I. The Bears gave him his shot and he's parlayed that into a good career that's helped him to build a life after football. He'll play as long as the team allows him to play and I seriously doubt he'll go elsewhere for more money as long as he gets a fair offer.

G are all Germans as cynical as you or are you an exception? IF someone offered him double the money is one big IF for a guy who's 32 years old and in order to do that they'd likely need to do a multi year deal that was back ended to protect themselves against a decline in his play and it would probably not offer much in the way of guarantees. Nobody is gonna give him a $5 mil one year deal and I don't think anyone including the Bears will go more than two years.

He's a very good rotational player in a system he knows well and fits his skills but he's no longer and every down starting DE and if anyone was to pay him well enough to play that way his productivity would probably decline just as Pep's did in 2011 when both of them played too many snaps. Wootton and McClellin helped ease the burden last year and the two greybeards became more productive. Playing in a rotation is what he does best. No team can afford to pay guys like that $5 mil a year right now.
