Loadholt has developed into one of the best RTs in the game and he is probably the best run blocker at the OT position in the entire game. His pass protection has improved and he uses his exceptionally long arms to make up for average feet.
Loadholt for a reduced rate in comparison to a LT solidifies an OT position.

very good analysis, he could help forte actually look like ap on the outside

#Bears interested in him, too RT @MoveTheSticks: Hottest name I keep hearing is TE Jared Cook. He's going to break the bank. #FreeAgency

if they were to get long and lodholt, that pushes brown and carimi inside to guard and webb to swing. i cannot se them taking a g or c in the first 2 rounds. ecspecially if they lose roach and urlacher gone a year or so later.
look for a lb te and c taken....then straight bpa

Hey, only I can make bad jokes around here. Seriously though, I wouldn't take Long being here as a sign that he is likely to sign with the Bears. As we remember from last year, Mario Williams met with the Bears when free agency started, then got on a plain to Buffalo and never returned.

With his shuffling off to Buffalo, it looks like he may never be heard from again. Hello anonymity. Hope he likes petting his money. He's not going to sniff a Lombardi. Personally, you gotta go after the money because you only can do this a limited time, but you also want to go somewhere where you won't disappear and actually have a chance to make a difference and win a Lombardi. Money counts big, but wringing every cent out oa deal is in the interests of the agent, not the player. A players decision needs to be more balanced.
Long is a pretty smart guy. I bet he's not in town to look at Sears world headquarters. Unless of course he is really into Craftsman tools...

Very true. In fact, it could be a BAD sign in that he's coming here first with the intention of going elsewhere to sign the real contract.
We can speculate all day long. Until we here news that a contract is signed, good news can sound like bad and bad news can be good. NO ONE KNOWS. We sound like a bunch of kids on Christmas Eve.

bears trying to steal phil loadholt?
So here is an interesting intra-division scenario emerging in the final hours before the nfl free-agent market opens. The minnesota vikings have to this point failed to re-sign right tackle phil loadholt, who now appears to have generated significant interest from the chicago bears, according to brad biggs of the chicago tribune.
The development tells us two things. First, the vikings are nearing a deadline for keeping intact the offensive line they believed they had established for the long term last season. Second, the bears are serious about addressing their offensive line -- so much so that they would spend relatively premium money, perhaps more than $5 million annually -- to replace the player they drafted in the first round just two years ago.
Yes, if the bears land loadholt, the best-case scenario for gabe carimi would seem to be competing for a starting guard position. There have also been multiple reports, including this one from alex marvez of fox sports, that connect the bears and free-agent left tackle jake long. Loadholt figures to be a more affordable option if the bears want a starting tackle in free agency.
The vikings already had more than enough salary-cap space to sign loadholt, but it's worth noting they created more tuesday morning by restructuring the contract of tight end john carlson. (tom pelissero of 1500espn.com has details.)
again, these are the types of exciting/agonizing moments that the free-agent deadline brings. I really don't think the vikings want to lose loadholt, given their lack of an internal replacement, and they certainly don't want to see him strengthen one of their division rivals. I wouldn't be surprised if we have a resolution on this one by the end of tuesday.

They do make quality tools. I just got a new Craftsman toolbox, and it's glorious. The situation is different for Long than it was Williams. Williams was probably the top free agent, and there were plenty of teams lined up to do something stupid to "make a splash". Long doesn't have the same market. He's is coming off of a bad year and has injury issues. So far just the Bears and Rams have rumored interest in him, and he could also go back to Miami on a one year deal. I don't think we will have a mystery bidder looking to do something dumb, but you never know. If it comes down to the Bears and Rams with no money involved, that would probably help us because the Niners and Seahawks aren't going away and the Rams aren't going anywhere (other than maybe moving to LA in a few years). However, if the Rams are offering him $9 million a year and the Bears are offering him $5 mil a year, that's a different story.
Personally, I am hoping for the Bears can somehow sign a tackle AND Brandon Moore. Jared Cook would be nice too, but I won't get too greedy.
