@BradBiggs: Another source suggests it is a slight tick higher at $7.01 million following '12 adjustments. Either way, only 10 teams have less cap room.

Sure he can, and then we'd owe $32.3M to him through the salary cap over the remaining four years. Which is just ... babytown frolics.

I'd rather see Winston/Schwartz instead.

If Phil Emery and Cliff Stein say we can afford Levitre I am going to crack a beer and celebrate.

@nfl: RT @NFL_ATL: Titans leading the chase for top guard Andy Levitre? Bills, Colts reportedly in the mix as well Andy Levitre has suitors in Titans, Colts, Bills - NFL.com
So who is Webster's primary competition? Already reported to be interested in free-agent guards Brandon Moore, Kevin Boothe and Ramon Foster, and the Sun-Times believes Levitre is on the Chicago Bears' radar as well.
Surveying the free-agent landscape, there aren't many teams with salary-cap space and a dire need at guard. One team that qualifies is Indianapolis, though general manager Ryan Grigson is expected to concentrate on Louis Vasquez due to his ties in the Indianapolis Colts' front office.
According to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, one of the Titans, Colts and Bills will be left without a chair when the music stops. All three have interest in Levitre and Vasquez, which could leave the loser competing with the Bears for Moore and Foster.

I'm with you windy, the way the OL has been dealt with is criminal. Presently, they have 29 mil commited to the DL and thats w/o bringing back izzy. The OL is about 1/4 of that and thats just a bunch of 500k - 1mil scrubs along with garza (2), carimi(2), webb (1.3). Is there any wonder why this is is one of the worst OL in the NFL? Certain posters think the bears have super bowl aspirations but the playoffs arent even going to happen by resigning all of your old defensive players and relying on the draft to fix the OL. Its time to start allocating some of your limited resouces to bring in proven FA OL, at least 1 and 2 would be a dream. While signing levitre is a pipe dream, if they did that we should all be doing cartwheels. Many think its crazy to spend that money and pay paul later but thats the way it goes. Thats what they've been doing with pepp, BU, briggs and eventually with melton. why is it any different for an all pro type OL?

Bears pondering free agent solutions (Bushrod, Cook)

High-priced players such as Bushrod or Cook likely under serious consideration

The first day of a soft start to the NFL's shopping season resulted in a lot of talk but teams and agents alike are hesitant to jump in wheeling and dealing.
The Bears are believed to be exploring the possibility of making one significant addition and it could come down to choosing between going for help on the offensive line with a left tackle like the Saints' Jermon Bushrod or opting for a playmaking tight end like the Titans' Jared Cook or Giants' Martellus Bennett. Sources indicated the Bears have shown interest in Bushrod and Cook.

Very suspect source alert on this rumor.
Bears are all over Jake Long and they have made an early offer to the big OL

Martellus Bennett still in New York Giants' plans?
Free-agent tight end Martellus Bennett came to the conclusion last month that he was nothing more than a "temporary investment" to the New York Giants, but the team reportedly still wants him around.
Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News cited a team source Friday to report the Giants do, in fact, hope to re-sign Bennett before NFL free agency opens Tuesday afternoon. Bennett was correct to note that he was never the front office's top priority -- locking down left tackle Will Beatty for another five years was item No. 1 -- but Vacchiano reported the Giants want to keep their core together. Kevin Boothe is also a target for re-signing, according to the newspaper, but if deals can't be reached, the Giants are prepared to seek out affordable backups. New York is roughly $9 million under the salary cap, but Vacchiano reported $6 million to $7 million likely will be tied up in restricted free agent tenders to running back Andre Brown, safety Stevie Brown and receiver Victor Cruz. The Giants are coming off a disappointing season, but everything we've heard from coach Tom Coughlin to general manager Jerry Reese suggests the "R" word is being shunned. The Giants aren't rebuilding, but they aren't about to overpay for their supporting cast. UPDATE: The Daily News reported Saturday the Giants are making a "late push" to sign Bennett, which is one of their top goals this offseason. The sides have talked several times in the past few days and plan to keep negotiating leading up to the start of free agency on Tuesday.
