Just for the record, agents do not get 10%. Last I hear, it was in the neighborhood of 3%. That said, the upper tax bracket hits hard.

I like the way you put that, "just for the record." It implies what I think is true, that the actual dollars as dollars is not that critical, it is the pride/dignity issue. I'm hoping that pride can be salved with all sorts of incentives that Urlacher perhaps thinks he is likely to earn but a faded player really won't. I'd really like him back, I think he can man the middle one more year. I'd really hate to see him drain $5 million from the cap. I'm afraid a similar player can be had for $2 million, :(

hasta la vista brian! 5 million a year, maybe if you were Ray Lewis

Base around 3 and incentives worth up to 5. Hows that sound?

Correction made. No thanks necessary.

This is only what's been reported.
He wants to play at least two more seasons and likely wants a new deal in the $5 million-per-year range on par with recent contracts earned by veteran linebackers Ray Lewis (since retired) and London Fletcher.
So if it's accurate he's looking for a market level deal and given the pre-FA shopping period over this long weekend I guess we're all gonna find out whether there another market for him for that kind of money. I expected something in the $4.5 to $5 mil range and I think Emery wants to make it less than $4 mil so we'll see what happens.
To me the interesting part of the report is this; "He wants to play at least two more seasons. Wow, I wonder if that will be a sticking point with Emery or whether he sees it as a way to make the deal more cap friendly through a multi year deal. I don't see Urlacher wearing out his welcome the way Favre did so the question is can he really return and play at a high level for another two years or more? At this point in time he seems to thin he can.
The other side of this is can there be a way to make a spot for him on the coaching staff at some point in time and can that be worked into the deal. But I gotta say that I'm with sox on this one. The good of the team and the pursuit of a championship has to be part of the equation here and Brian should know that.

Happy Birthday my friend! I turn 51 on Tuesday. Like Mickey Mantle used to say, "If I knew I was going to live this long I would've taken better care of myself". Some solid FA signings would be a great BD present.
