Honestly, its just time to cut Hester and Davis pronto!

There are still some hester fans out there I know, but he's a 2.1 mil cap savings for a 31 going on 32 year old return guy who hasn't done shit in a few years. I dont care if he wants to be a "bear for life", we can fill that spot with a combo of weems and a 6th rounder who knows where the frickin 10 yard line is for god sakes. We obviously don't have to review what he brings to the the wr corp - nada! That same 6th rounder can bring that. As far as davis goes, I'd take the 2.5mil cap savings and see what mid tier FA we can get and if that doesnt work, take a chance on Escobar in the 2nd which we can probably trade down a bit and get.

Couldn't agree more.... Hester is done and not worth the Cap space. Davis has had plenty of time to show us how to drop a pass. The Escobar kid looks worth a gamble and I'd spend the money saved on Oline.

Well I sure wouldn't be sad to see Davis go but it's not likely we'll save much if we cut him and then turn around and put that money right back into another TE not that I'm opposed to that.

I agree that we need better at TE and my guess is that if we spend some $$$ in FA anywhere it will be there if we can find the right guy for the right price. In fact it wouldn't surprise me if a TE was one of Emery's first signings but unless he finds his guy Davis may still be around come Tuesday.

One great advantage of this 3 day pre-FA shopping period is that GMs can talk to player agents and have their ducks in a row when the FA bell rings on Tuesday. So I believe Emery will have had any number of conversations with agents representing some of the TEs and if there's a guy he can afford who he believes can do better then he'll probably let Davis go. If there isn't right now he may hold onto him for a bit and see what the second round of FA brings.

Hester is another story. The team seems to want him around. If not and needing to free up cap space I think they would have released him but they haven't. Joe D wants him on his return teams and if there's anybody who might actually figure out a way to use him offensively it's probably Trestman but only after making it clear to him that KR/PR is his official title for 2013.

If we did release him I would be wailing about it being stupid but I really don't think we have a guy who can take his place yet and until we do he has more value to us than playing against us because if we cut him somebody will sign him and I'd rather it not be a NFCN team. We aren't in a full rebuilding mode and until we are guys like Hester can still win you games in many different ways.

PS: Hester just turned 30. He won't be 31 until this coming November and Darryl Green was still a holy terror as a PR well into his 30s. We gotta ride Hester just a little farther to see if the magic is still there.

Sorry, I just read where he was 31 going on 32, usually check my facts before I type. OTOH, 30 or 31 is way up there for a top flight return man who didnt return a thing last year and only had longs of 44/40 respectively. But you're right, it does appear that they want him aroud for the time being anyway. IMO, with the change in KO's and his poor 2012 play, I just cant justify paying the guy almost 3mil in hopes that he returns a punt and offers nothing else to the team.

You can add a few others to the list as well like Bennett (Mr. Glass), Campbell, Speathe, Garza, and i know most people will look at me crazy and i love what hes done but Peppers. If he cant restructure its time to trade him and get some cap money back into our pockets. Oh and Urlacher as well, sorry but hes not worth the 5mill he wants a year

not sure about Hester anymore. Guy is still fast and if he can regain his focus, I say give him one more and last chance

Wonder what hos cap hit is. It could be a "take a major pay cut or get cut" kind of thing. I think he's worth keeping around if he doesn't cost that much.

the hit would be around 700k but we would gain 2.1mill this year back into the money pot. Also what are you gonna use him as? He's like Daunte Hall, a BRIGHT STAR that shine bright but fades out fast

The only problem with cutting Peppers is we'd be stuck with $10 Million in Dead Money. Not sure how much we'd be stuck with next year. I do agree on the rest.
