Interest in Nick Roach
Just read a quick note about a lot of interest for Roach (quote came from his agent so grain of salt added). If true, I just don't get it. In my opinion, he is a decent complimentary player. Frankly, he's a little undersized for the SAM and has benefited a lot from playing next to Briggs & Urlacher (until the last couple of years). I certainly don't think he's the answer at the Mike if Urlacher leaves. I hope the Bears don't overpay to keep him.

If someone wants to pay him more than we did last year, go right ahead. I can see his value based on how he stood in for Urls and the company of men he learned the position from, but he's nothing special and never will be. Solid OLB and MLB backup.

Nick Roach's agent: Six teams called Chicago Bears linebacker
CHICAGO -- Chicago Bears free-agent linebacker Nick Roach appears to be drawing interest from other teams.
Roach's agent Josh Wright declined comment on the status of negotiations with the Bears, but said six teams had called as of Saturday afternoon. Roach has mostly played strong side linebacker during his six seasons with the Bears, but has also seen time in the middle. He played the final four games there last season with Brian Urlacher -- also a free agent -- sidelined by a hamstring injury. Wright said some of the teams are looking at Roach to handle the middle. He also says Roach has no preference if he plays there or at strong side. Well, if he's really "nothing special" I wonder why six teams have already called his agent.
I've never understood all the "hate" for Roach. He's been showing us for years that he's an above average player and also capable of playing multiple positions. He definitely deserves to be back and it would be stupid to lose him.

I too always wondered why all the hate towards Roach. He has done a good job for the Bears and has the intangible "Football Smarts" that teams look for.
I hope he comes back.

who's ever hated roach? I've never heard anyone say anything hatefull. Actually most assumed he'd be back and were happy. But that doens't mean you get into a bidding war for his services either. He's nothing special, and teams will find that out.
If he doesn't come back though, add 2 lb's to the need list, SAM and MLB(regardless if BU comes back).

I based my thoughts on reading many posts that were anti-Roach and saying that at the least he wasn't any good. Not to the same extent as Webb but negative none the less.

I've never seen anything about roach not being any good, at least not as a SAM.

I'm not talking about articles but rather individual posts on several boards. Individuals opinions from several posters. That's all I'm basing this on.
