Rams, Bears 'among most interested' in Long According to USA Today

Rams, Bears 'among most interested' in Long
According to USA Today, the Rams and Bears are "believed to be among the most interested" in free agent LT Jake Long.
It's hardly a surprise, as both teams had sinkholes for left tackles last season. There should be a nice market for Long's services, but a lot is going to depend on what turns up in his physicals. Injury has become a very serious concern for a player who was once one of the top 1-2 tackles in the league. It wouldn't be surprising if Long doesn't find what he's looking for on the open market and ends up back in Miami on a team-friendly deal.

Hopefully not ... He just wants way to much money after such a big injury. Levitre, Bushrod and Moore are maybe the best left. Even with this cap situation - maybe restructure one or two deals - we can get a very solid O-Line: Sign Bushrod as LT, Moore as LG, Lance Louis as RG, Jonathan Scott as RT and draft Travis Frederick or one of these Centers. With that I think Jay has a lot more time. Sadly I just have a very bad feeling. The team just looks so unprepared in my mind ... God, I hope so much that tomorrow will be a good Bear Day! :)

NFL.com's Daniel Jeremiah "keeps hearing" the Rams and Bears are free agent LT Jake Long's most likely suitors

Why does that make me think Long's not asking for a crazy amount, especially since we have only 7ish mill to play with?

What if we traded up with the 7 mil to play with ? Lane Johnson ? Since we were out of the playoffs ... what did Atlanta learn who were in the playoffs ?

Julio Jones ? Whats being a slick motherfucker that nobody saw ? Colin Kapernick ? Does Emery/trestman know this ?

well even if his deal averaged $9 mil a season it's unlikely his first years cap hit would be more than $5 mil or so...generally the first years base salary is low since the player is getting a signing bonus...as an example, ben grubbs signed a 5 year $36 mil contract but his first year cap hit was $2.7 million...so while his deal averaged $7 mil a season, he would have fit under the cap of a team with $2.8 mil in cap space...

i'm in favor of getting long because i would trust that emery and co. have done their due diligence and determined that long's play fell off due to injury...he was one of the 3 best left tackles in the NFL not that long ago...

If we sign him we can afford him... we have enough Cap Space to add him to our Roster. We have lots of money we could open up. Seems like Emery just does not want to make room before he has to.

Long is healthy now and a healthy Long is as good as a LT as you could find.

Long - LG - C - Louis - Webb with Carimi/Brown as backups. That's a solid group going forward without thinking about the Draft

If we can get him for cheap I don't see why we shouldn't take him. Sure he has had an injurie historie but he is healthy now.

By the way are we even sure that Louis will be back for the start of the next season?

All that matters with Long is the signing bonus.

I give him 10 million a season if he takes a low signing bonus and most of the guarantees in roster bonuses that won't count against the cap if he gets hurt and we have to cut him.
