I'm interested in keeping Lach around if it can be done for not-a-dime over $3.75 million. Even that seems like too much, but the guy has been loyal and he's all but iconic in the eyes of Bears fans. It'd be nice if Lach turned out to be a Bear for life, but it is what it is. He's an aging player who's lost a step or two, has been more injury prone in recent years and is looking for his last paycheck before calling it a day. He's not a part of this team's plan for the future, and at the level he played last year he's not going to be someone opposing offenses have to game plan for anymore. Basically, if we can get him for average UFA MLB money, I'm fine with that....but if we have to pay him a ton just because he's an "icon", it's time to part ways and say thanks for the memories....

well, if nothing else, he loves his fans...

We simply do not have the money to overpay Lach. Yeah he wants to be here, and yeah we could use him...but its numbers, we simply do not have the cash to give him the money he wants. So, either he is going to take a huge discount to stay here, or else another team will pay him what he wants.
I'm trying//to let go//of maybe//but maybe's just so//very interesting//Oh, what a thing.

I am pretty indifferent to this whole thing...stay, go, makes little difference to me...speaking of girlfriend analogies, this reminds me those situations where you BOTH know the relationship is over, but final breakup just hasn't happened yet...things get a little awkward...it's kind like that for me...I am sure in a few years me and Brian will be "friends" again, but right now I.just.don't.care.
Reductio ad absurdum...it's how we roll...

Im looking at this situation like I did with Kreutz a few years ago. At the right price I would like him back but if he leaves oh well he isnt HOF Lach anymore. Having him back wont make us make a desperate move especially in the draft and he is a player coach out there. But if we moved on its not like we are moving on from a 25 year old Urlacher. Eventually we are going to have to and sometimes waiting too long messes the team up

I think I've come to this same feeling. Go or stay. Whatever. DeCicco will likely take over and may not be as good, but we have too many holes to fill with no cap space and too few draft picks. We'll miss his playcalling but he also appears to harbor resentment for the firing of Lovie. We have enough guys with that problem, we don't need a locker room leader/team icon with that problem. Even if his legs have healed, he's old and won't be able to cover. I'd say 3.75 is still too much. I'm sure he won't take less, so then he should just retire. Maybe go sit next to Ditka and be a tv analyst. Make millions off Xfinity commercials and whatever.

yes, and as we know there is a big chance with him of a mid-season injury, and then we're screwed

That would be terrible and he wouldn't even be as good as 40 year old Urlacher. If Urls walks, you HAVE to grab your next MLB early in the draft, no ifs and or buts. You don't replace him with a UDFA ST'er.

No one on the Vikings board even seems thrilled about the possibility of signing Urlacher:
"Yeah, I'm not really on board with pursuing Urlacher. He seems finished." "Urlacher? I can't imagine he has a whole lot left. But I don't know. Is he better than what we have....I'd guess, maybe." As for Urlacher. Sign him for the One game at Soldier field." Even a 'finished' Urlacher is better then anything we have now, or that can play this year if we draft one. Unless hes asking for a ton of cash. I personally dont think hes finished. I bet he can still cover better then Greenway." "Sign Urlacher to a one year deal then move him straight into a position coach job." "Jennings would be ok. Urlacher, not so much." "Now he [Urlacher] is a slow crabby guy with arthritis in his spine. He is too slow for pass coverage and any runner who can run to the outside edge is gonna escape him every time." "As for Urlacher, I'd rather they pass, I just don't think he has that much left." "I have no problem with the Vikings signing either Jennings or Urlacher. Both are positions of need, and we all know what both of those guys are capable of. I would have a problem with the Vikings overpaying for Urlacher..."

I think 2 million sounds like the deal he should take with the Bears. You know he is near the end of the rope when a player like Urlacher is not being demanded by Vikings fans.
