SERE. No problem. To know and understand how these deals are able to get done is pretty much the key to some of our discussions about signing UFAs. Someone asked the question that with only around $7 mil of cap space available when FA began how did we manage two big first day signings so I posted these contract details as answer.
We had to guaranteed a lot of Bushrod's money to get it done in as cap friendly a manner for 2013 as possible. $22.465 mil/62.5%of the total is being guaranteed against injury over years 1-3 so provided he's stays healthy he's assured of averaging $7.49 mil per year for his next three years. That's about 50% more per year than he was getting and puts him right in there with the deal Beatty got.
His cap costs mushroom to around $9 mil in years 4 and 5 when he'll be about 32 years old but by that time he could be released without any dead cap space. It's a fair deal for both sides if he can play better and more consistently than Webb did and given the market we weren't gonna get a LT for less and maybe not a top tier RT either.

Don't think he will see the last couple of years of the contract. Affordable this year though, and that is important.

Yep, three years is enough time to do what needs to be done which is draft a LT and let Kromer and Myers develop him like Bushrod was. Or maybe Webb does reach his storied "potential" and can switch back to LT eventually. Who knows.
But it does buy us time to make other arrangements and takes care of a major problem now. Getting Bennett takes care of the second biggest offensive issue as well. Emery is a pretty fair shot with a rifle I'd say. He finds his targets and he hits them.

Anyone want to hear some good Bushrod info go to Waddle and Silvy Wed and listen to Triplett from the New Orleans Times Picuyane. He says Bushrod is not a top 5 OT but he is in the next group and that he earned his Pro Bowls by holding up in a pass heavy offense with almost no help.

Does this mean we can go back to lining up our TE on the right side of the formation again and actually throw to him?
