Have the Bears closed their window to win a SB?
It is closed. Urlacher is gone and Hester now stinks. There is only 1 super star on D and the O has no super stars. The window has closed with the players we currently have. We would have to get outstanding players in the draft in the future to become a real SB contender.

Ya it probably closed up. This team is closer to a rebuild then it is a SB; BUT SF was in a rebuild not to long ago, and they have had a great turn around, Minny was in rebuild and made it to the playoffs. Rebuilds don't always take 2-3-4 years in todays NFL.

If anything the Bears actually opened the window by installing a true offense the new coach and OC will bring and the fixing of the o-line, the defensive performance shouldn't drop off to much even with the loss of roach and maybe urlacher because the main problems that was holding the bears back were on offense......best to make the changes now than to see the window close completely from not doing anything at all.
The turn around for the bears shouldn't take that long.....

We've got at least 3 superstars (Briggs, Peppers, Tillman) on D and BMarshall on offense. Get us a decent oline and you can call Cutler and Forte superstars as well.
However I do agree that Hester stinks. It's amazing how he's still on the team making millions while playing like SHIT. Time to move on, Phil!

who is this 1 star on the D?
Pro Bowl starter CB Jennings
Pro Bowl starter CB Tillman
Pro Bowl DT Melton
that's without thinking about Briggs who is still the great WLB he ever was and DE Peppers who really is still great.
Our window isn't closed. We do NOT need a rebuild. The D needs some changes in the next 2 years but it's far away from a rebuild. More retooling what we have.
Safteys are young and have lots of time left, DEs are young other than Peppers. DTs are young. Jennings isn't old either and Tillman seems to have more than 2 years left. We will get a new and young starting LB this year.
On offense, no starter is old that we don't want to upgrade already

Firing Lovie opened that window up right there!

I don't think so, but until we see the finished product on the field, you can't tell. I do believe the window closed on the D being as dominant as it had been in the past. That does not mean that with a few new additions that we can't get where we were before, but the old group is either not as effective or leaving or left. The balance to that is that the O is far better than we have seen it in a long time and the biggest weakness (OL) is still being addressed. If we come out strong there, the O could more than compensate for the D. If Shea comes on this year and we find a good LB we can still be good on D. It depends on the final roster and how they play. Just like every year. It's definitely different but it remains to be seen if it is worse or better ON THE WHOLE.

I think Lovie was holding the O back the whole time. Who would think of bringing in Martz after multiple failures on other teams. I mean the Lions even got him before us. How low could we go after his failure there?
We need to get lucky in the draft and snag a super star or two. Marshall was a 3rd rounder and so was Briggs and G Jennings, if I am correct.
It is pretty bad that none of our GMs have tried to improve the O line. How could they not see that it was the problem in the last 4-6 years? A regular fan could see it sucked.

Obvious troll is totally obvious....but I'll comment anyway, outta boredom. Lach and Hester may be "gone" and "stinky"....but who gives a shit? We still have Cutler, Marshall, Forte, Bush, Jeffery, M. Bennett, Briggs, Peppers, Melton, Jennings, Peanut etc etc etc. So, yeah, Lach being "gone" and Hester "stinking" causes that Super Bowl window to slam closed. Losing our great offensive coaches hurts as well. How will we ever get over the gaping wounds caused by losing guys like Drake & Tice? There is no hope. No hope, no hope, no hope AT ALL. Someone, quick, hand out the cyanide capsules...

With a smart 2-3 drafts, this turnover can be taken care of by 2015, and defense could be playing at still a high level
