No way. We have to many needs at this moment for us to do such thing. Besides if Cutler leaves then what happens to Marshall? Will he move along with Cutler, will his game performance drop?
But it does make me think of what we are going to do if Cutler fails horriblely next season. Then we are screwed. Cutler HAS to play up to his potential there is no other way around it. Depending on our Oline it might be all or nothing for Cutler imo. If we get a solid oline this year and Cutler plays poorly then what? We let him go as a FA and what? Trade up to draft, trade us to another QB like with Cutler or bring in a veteran QB? But that's another topic.

There are so many other things to worry about at this point. Next off-season, the team will know if the QB position needs an overhaul.
I'm BACK, Jack... or something..

This guy is smoking crack or just trying to get a raise out of someone. How in hell could any serious person think that we should spend one of our only two top picks on QB is beyond stupid.
Someone should prevent this kind of stupidity even getting air time.

They need to write their column and if no other better ideas pop into their little heads........well how about this then, LOL. Dan Pompei follows the team pretty closely and he's an intelligent guy but even he knows that without some pre-draft or draft day magic to get more picks a QB will have to take a backseat to other needs.
Once any prospect with near term potential is off the board in rounds 1-3 the rest seem to fall into the 4th-6th round area and we have picks in those rounds. These seem to be guys with the basic tool but with enough holes in their game to be considered "projects". That's the kind of guy we need to put into the hopper along with Blanchard and see which one gets that role as a guy being developed into a potential NFL caliber starter or high level backup.
But I totally disagree with the idea that we'll find a guy who can fill that role in 2013. Most of the available vets have one real advantage over any young guy. They've taken snaps and started NFL games and know what to expect. Even a guy like Rex has probably lost his "deer in the headlights" look by now and if push came to shove he may be a prospect for an inexpensive #2. I think they'd rather have Campbell if they can get him for $2 mil or so but I wouldn't rule Grossman out. He has the arm and he has the experience needed to get by in an emergency.

Maybe it's a foolish thought but I'm gonna simply assume that Cutler won't play "horribly" this year because he never has really played "horribly" before despite being surrounded with inferior receiving and blocking talent almost his entire time with the Bears AND working with at least two OCs who never seemed to "get it" as far as what he does best.
If I was to make a prediction I'd say that Emery and the team are pretty well committed to him now and in the future but trying to establish his value for an extension right now is tough so we wait for that to become more clear. Besides after what Flacco just got now is not the time to be negotiating. It's true that it's gonna be up to Cutler to show all that he's got but I've seen what he can do when he's got and offense built around his true talents and he's actually a much more complete QB today than he was then.
I still believe he'll be here for many more years but there's no question we need an understudy coming in behind him. The only issue is when we'll actually have a guy at that level and ready to start when needed. I say it won't happen for at least one more year and possibly two.

I have to believe Emery/Trestman are putting together a multi-year plan for the team. Maybe something like a three year plan, that is a general road map of where they ultimately want to go with the personnel. While the team can be very good this season, any idiot can see that our ultimate needs outstrip our draft/FA resources for THIS year.
They both seem pretty sharp, so they'll figure out the backup QB thing.

If we trade down and get an extra 2nd or 3rd, I'd take a long look at Ryan Nassib if he would be still on the board in the 2nd round.
Kolb would be perfect as backup IMO, if he accepts our price

JABF - Thank you.
With that Kolb speculative story, I have now officially heard it all.
Hahaha, you can really tell they are desperate to invent rumors that something might happen so they can report on it.

I personally think we should draft a guy, but to go out and look for one with the thought that he would have the mental/physical talent to be able to replace Cutler within 2 years is to spout insanity.
I agree with you, just because Emery may be interested in drafting a qb and Cutler hasn't been extended yet doesn't mean the Bears are hard pressed to get rid of him....they'd be the laughing stock of the nfl especially seeing how Cutler has been the best qb the Bears have had in AGES.
