if we let him go, we should draft a QB in the 1st and 2nd and let them battle it out and go with the winner

Yes.
No.

The biggest problem with doing it now is not knowing what his value really is and there's the potential of committing to a $20-$30 mil bonus alone plus salary guarantees just to save $3 mil or so in cap cost now. Nope, I wouldn't rush into that right now either if I was Phil Emery.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

no, not legal ;)
but you get the sarcasm out of that, don't you![]()
GermansbombedPH say BEAR DOWN!
No. Let him apply this year by impressing us.
If Trestman and Emery WANT to be married to Jay, then by all means they should make sure he remains a Bear. The financial side of a move like this one (extending Jay Cutler) would help the team atm, too. It'd definitely increase cap space so we could either fill some of these holes or bring back a couple of our existing guys. I was basically speaking from a rational angle with my post. I, by no means, want us to let Jay walk. As I said, I still have a tinge in here that makes me believe he can give us a ring. Until that tinge is gone....I want him to stay. Thing is, I can totally understand if he doesn't stay with us. Our team is going through changes right now. Changes that don't seem big CURRENTLY, but may be monumental in hindsight.
This all really depends on how Jay plays in 2013...or if our new coaching/management want to remain married to the guy Angelo bet the farm on. QBs get paid A LOT. If Jay can't give us more than 20 TDs this coming season, I gotta believe he'll be put tah steppin'. I hope he launches 35 TDs and way less than 20 INTs, but who among us knows for sure it won't be more like 25 TDs and 18 INTS. If it's the latter, and it's THIS far into his career, it's pretty safe to say he ain't a "franchise QB"...

Until we see how trestman and cutler mesh it would be a big mistake to reup him now. I'm pretty sure he won't be frustrated with trestman like he was with tice but you never know. To me the relationship the qb has with the hc is important especially now that our hc is an offense guru

They should sign a veteran QB. I was wondering if Sid Luckman was still available? Of course he's getting up there in years (even older than Urlacher), but we signed him for $5,500 last time, so he's cap-friendly.

Trestman - Kromer - Tucker - DeCamillis
I'm looking forward to seeing these guys coach. Hope they're good.
