Chicago Bears Source: DE McBride to visit Bears Tuesday

    By Jeff Dickerson

CHICAGO -- Free agent defensive end Turk McBride is scheduled to visit the Chicago Bears on Tuesday, according to a league source.

McBride played in only 15 combined games for the New Orleans Saints the past two seasons but started eight games for the Detroit Lions in 2010 when he had a career-high 5.0 sacks. McBride spent his first three seasons in the NFL with the Kansas City Chiefs and has 9.5 career sacks.

The Bears could be looking at McBride in the event the club does not re-sign veteran free agent defensive lineman Israel Idonije. Bears general manager Phil Emery said at the NFL combine the team wanted to talk with Idonije about coming back, but possibly at a reduced price.

Idonije signed a one-year, $2.5 million deal with the Bears last offseason. While Idonije had another productive year for the Bears, the free agent market has proven tough for many veteran players because of the salary cap constraints some teams are facing due to the new collective bargaining agreement.

This would be assuming BU doesn't come back correct?

Shea will not play MLB for the Bears.

If anything Shea will play OLB (SLB)

I still like this idea and want McClellin to be used like the Broncos use Miller

Shea McClellin is a DE, not a MLB.

Turk would be a solid gameday LE/UT backup. Izzy is getting older and we're going to have to replace that role sooner rather than later, and as much as I want him back the cost may be prohibitive.

Another classic Phil Emery move. He's protecting himself against losing Izzy and in the process trying to find a guy who can possibly play in the rotation the same way. As usual he's not just about bodies but always about the right bodies.

Not exactly a sack artist but he's had some reasonably productive years.

Rotational DL. It was nice to have a really good rotation last year, Paea, Melton, Shea, Peppers, Wootton, Collins. We need one that plays both DT/DE if Izzy doesnt come back.
