Whose in the SUPERBOWL and how did they build their OFFENSIVE LINE ?
Thats the question we have to ask ourselves as BEARS fans.

And what SUCKS is we TRIED to draft OL under the last regime ... they didnt have the smarts to draft the RIGHT OL at Halas Hall..
The BEARS front office was all about DEFENSE when the NFL was going towards OFFENSE.
Angelo just never got it that the game was passing him by.
The CHRIS WILLIAMS and CARIMI picks ... they didnt know anything better.
Its what they thought was best in their minds coming from a DEFENSE point of view.
But the game had outran them several years ago.
Everything that THE CHICAGO BEARS after going 7-1 was proof of that.
The team could not hold their own field ... or go on the road and hold the field.

The Cwill pick everyone knew was a gamble and carimi isn't a bust yet
Not only is the first round importan but 2 and 3 as well to building a good line
There are a couple slam dunks we can get in 1 this year and I hope we double dip in round 2 as well

CWill was a reach and I think they knew it but that's what happens when you're foolish enough to get caught up in needing to draft a certain position rather than the best player on the board. The gap between Clady and CWill was pretty wide but JA tried to bridge it anyway and lost at least as far as him being a LT.
We really never did right by CWill as far as coaching him to play that position or any other. He found some success as a LG but in Tice's schemes he wasn't a fit and you can't really blame CWill for that. I think in a zone scheme where his athleticism was put to better use he'd be a decent OG.
We can't judge Carimi harshly just yet. That knee injury set him back just as CWill's back injury did with him but he's a totally different style OT than CWill. He's not anywhere near as athletic but he's far more physical. He needs some good coaching and with this new staff coming in I think he'll get it and the combination of a full offseason to work on both his technique and rebuild his strength should make a big difference in his play. If not he may never see year three.
There are OTs in this years draft but as usual the number of RTs far outweighs the number of LTs. Lucking into one with the #20 pick isn't likely so I still believe that's an area we fix in FA. Albert and Bushrod seem the most likely to target there. Then I wouldn't have a problem if we could get a guy like Jones as an OC in one and still used our #2 pick on an OT with some upside.
The only way to make that line better is through higher caliber talent and good coaching and nothing on the entire team needs more attention that right now. OT, OG/OC, and TE are three spots Emery and Trestman should be looking at during Senior Bowl week and those are positions that should get priority in FA and the draft.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

I wouldn't be surprised that we take Fluker and play him as guard. Or Carimi plays as guard.
Kromer has a history of taking bigger OTs to OG and end up with great players.
Trestman like big Lineman too.

We need to get away from this music chairs linemen. It's absurd to think that "OL" is just one position when in reality it's 5 different positions.
Sometimes you get a guy who can make a switch, but it's just not something to rely on

Only way we replace Urlacher is if minter falls to round 2 and we can snag him
T'eo has bust written all over him
OL > MLB if we are serious about winning

I don't want Te'O in a Bears uniform at all even before the "fake" girlfriend saga.
