Sometimes you get a guy who can make a switch, but it's just not something to rely on
wrong. Just look at Trestmans/Kromers past and their OL work.
Big guys and OTs get switched to OGs then they stick.
I like that idea.

Look at what we have done, and it hasn't worked one bit
I'm not saying it can't work just not advisable to draft a guy with intent to move him

I'd rather look at what those coaches have done with their OLs than look at what our team with bad coaches has done with our OLs. If Kromer thinks Carimi is a OG, he is a OG. If we draft RT Fluker to play as OG, he is a OG. Kromer gets the benefit of the doubt until he proves otherwise. Kromer has done this before and it worked.

To move carimi to OG 3 years into his nfl career is a script for failure, if we draft someone like brown and move him from day one to a new set position, ok but moving guys all around everywhere is not advisable
That would be like saying ah hell just move major wright to cb this year I'm sure he will be fine

We really never did right by CWill as far as coaching him to play that position or any other. He found some success as a LG but in Tice's schemes he wasn't a fit and you can't really blame CWill for that. I think in a zone scheme where his athleticism was put to better use he'd be a decent OG.
We can't judge Carimi harshly just yet. That knee injury set him back just as CWill's back injury did with him but he's a totally different style OT than CWill. He's not anywhere near as athletic but he's far more physical. He needs some good coaching and with this new staff coming in I think he'll get it and the combination of a full offseason to work on both his technique and rebuild his strength should make a big difference in his play. If not he may never see year three.
There are OTs in this years draft but as usual the number of RTs far outweighs the number of LTs. Lucking into one with the #20 pick isn't likely so I still believe that's an area we fix in FA. Albert and Bushrod seem the most likely to target there. Then I wouldn't have a problem if we could get a guy like Jones as an OC in one and still used our #2 pick on an OT with some upside.
The only way to make that line better is through higher caliber talent and good coaching and nothing on the entire team needs more attention that right now. OT, OG/OC, and TE are three spots Emery and Trestman should be looking at during Senior Bowl week and those are positions that should get priority in FA and the draft.
I completely agree. C.Will was a poor draft pick, but we still could have salvaged something there. I will always believe Mike Tice hurt us on that oline. Some people say he was a guru, and I so wanted to believe that. But in hindsight, looking over his entire body of work, I can see he hurt us. Hopefully a new coach can wring something good out of a few of the players we already have on the OL, and we can add some better talent this year - and move on.
Trestman - Kromer - Tucker - DeCamillis
I'm looking forward to seeing these guys coach. Hope they're good.

I always wondered what DARRYL DRAKE had to do with drafting WIDE RECEIVERS ... if any at all.
Was he just the stooge that Angelo and Lovie fed him or did he have any say in the matter ?
We'll never know. But the track record no matter who was in charge of getting WR help ... sucked.
Now we have Emery and a PRO -BOWL WR ... first time since when ?
Anybody into Lane Johnson at LT and Barret Jones at C in the draft?
Would you blow your third pick on TE or WR ?
Levitre as FA at OG ?

We don't have a 3rd and again, drafting a tackle does nothing to help is this year. We don't really have the luxury of taking a guy for a few years from now we are in a code red situation with the OL, and need starters ASAP
With that said Barret Jones over lane Johnson easily

I meant would we blow our third pick on a TE or WR ... not a third round pick.
If the braintrust at Halas Hall could walk with Lane Johnson and Barret Jones in the same dtaft ...
Lane Johnson at LT ... Barret Jones at C.
Getting back to that third pick ... I would go with TE ... a PASS CATCHING/BLOCKING TE ...
OR ... a WR ... we do have Spaith and it looks like Kellin Davis has blown his wad ...
unless he can be coached up.
We should have never gotten rid of Greg Olson ... but then again that was the angelo regime ...
draft him ... trade him.
Lets assume we got Lane Johnson - Barret Jones - best TE in the draft (at our pick) ...
this pretty much covers the OFFENSIVE LINE issues.
DEFENSE is pretty much USELESS if the OFFENSIVE LINE cant keep them off the field.
Build the OL trenches in the first rounds and draft defense in the later rounds.

Yeah and Tice had that exact same idea how'd that work out?
It's possible a guy like Fluker could play OG but I don't think Carimi is cut out for it. But if both Fluker and Jones are both on the board at #20 why would you take Fluker who won't rate as high as Jones over him and then try to teach him a new position. If you want an OG/OC Jones would probably be the best on the board at that point.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.
