There are many reasons why I am a Bears fan. Afterall, our team is the founding team of the NFL. I also believe the Superbowl trophy should be called the Halas trophy, but that's an argument for a different day. This team is so rich in history, from it's creation in 1920, to the record breaking skills of Devin Hester today, it's truly an honor and a gift to root for this team. Not many people can say they've had players like Payton or Butkus play on their team. How lucky we are as Bear fans to say we did? So on this day, the birthday of a living legend, I wanted to share an email I sent to Dick, via his website, http://www.dickbutkus.com/ :

Dear Dick,

I just wanted to take a second to sing your praises. You are my favorite
player of all time. When I think of the Chicago Bears, I think of you. You
represent the hard-nose, ass kicking attitude that makes me so proud to be a
Bears fan. I wish that more of our players today played with such tenacity
as you displayed over your whole career. Through your numerous knee
injuries you still dominated and made your city proud.

I am the proud owner of your jersey and wear it with pride every Sunday.

I know you have had your share of fan mail, but I thought I would send
something your way that would bring you a fraction of the joy that you have
brought me through out the years.

I am so happy that you have provided this website for you fans. Yet another
great move!
