By looking at his stats he has yet to crack more than 4 TD receptions over his career at WR.
Hesters TD total over the years
2007 - played 16 games and he has only 2 TD receptions
2008 - played 15 games and he got 3 TD receptions
2009 - Played 13 games and he got 3 TD receptions
He was not on pace for 1000 yards in 2009. He played 13 games and only racked up 757 yards and averaged 58.2 yards per game. He would have needed to play 18 games to break 1000 yards.
Devin Aromashodu started 4 games and racked up 282 yards and scored 4 TDs.

I concur! Aromashodu is quite awesome. Hopefully that wasn't just a tease he gave every Bears fan. I want that every Sunday =) Cutler drops back... looks down field, throws it deep... Aromashodu wide open! TOUCHDOWN!

right there you said it in your first sentence. LOOKING AT THE STATS. Stats' can be misleading, and everyone knows that.
from a skills standpoint, he's got it all. From a knowledge standpoint, he's only been playing for a couple years where most guys come in playing there whole life.
he is average and nothing more. I thought he would be a good number one before the season but this kid is just a one trick pony that cant even be used in gimmick plays like Cribbs at least is used
he is the slot receiver nothing more

cut the kid some slack already.
I know, I used to say that as well. It should be the Bears fault for putting him as the no.1 WR. He's a 3 or 4 at best right now. I would like for him to succeed and become an awesome WR, but I just don't see it happening. He should do what he does best. Return kicks and punts.

8 TD receptions over 3 years is not misleading. He averages less than 3 per year.
I don't think YEARS of on the job training or redshirting is a luxury this team can afford. Hester can be a deep threat in the Martz system yes but he is not a savant who can duplicate what a nfl #1 WR has been specializing in since pee-wee leagues.

Why would you take the BEST return man ever in the history of the league, and make him into something else?
Does anyone really think Hester will ever possibly be regarded as the BEST wide receiver in the league? So then, why?

And there in lies the problem Grizzly, a #1 wr has been playing the position their whole life, our management thought they could take a kick returner who had barely played the position, let alone had the chance to master it, and turn him into a #1 wr b/c of his speed.
The kid is a slot wr at best, put him between the LB's and the DB's, in space and let him work in space.
He is not a #1, nor does he have the skill set to be one, it takes tons of training and years to get to that level, we should have brought in some veteran help mentor him, but we didn't. The only one skill he has is speed, but he doesn't have great hands, and lacks understanding of how to run a route/how to change the route based on coverage.
That being said, I don't want him back as strictly a punt/kick returner. He's too valuable on the O, as a slot/3rd wr option. If you had a WR that the D had to double, and another one that you had to worry about more then Devin, he would very scarry. We needed a legit 1 last year and the year before...it's been a lacking aspect of this team for to long, having that one guy would open up ton's of options to the O.
