Reports: Cubs agree to terms with Carlos Pena

The Cubs and free-agent first baseman Carlos Pena agreed to terms on a one-year, $10 million deal late Tuesday, according to media reports.

Cubs general manager Jim Hendry and Pena's agent Scott Boras have met a few times at the Winter Meetings in Orlando, Fla., and have come to an agreement, according to MLB.com's Carrie Muskat. But a Cubs official told Muskat that it was too early to declare it final.

However, Sports Illustrated's Jon Heyman tweeted late Tuesday that the "deal is done."

Pena gives the Cubs the left-handed bat they were after and also a steady glove at first base. Pena's numbers dropped last season when he hit .196 with 28 home runs and 84 RBIs for the Tampa Bay Rays. He hit 39 homers and drove in 100 runs in 2009 and had 46 homers and 121 RBIs in 2007.
