Bulls draft Nikola Mirotic, Jimmy Butler

CHICAGO -- The Chicago Bulls drafted two small forwards in the first round of Thursday's NBA draft, trading up to select forward Nikola Mirotic with the 23rd pick and grabbing Marquette forward Jimmy Butler with the 30th pick.
Butler could join the rotation immediately, while it could be years until Mirotic suits up for Tom Thibodeau's team.
Mirotic signed an extension with the Spanish club in late April that keeps him under contract until the 2015-16 season, according to Real Madrid's website.
The 6-8 Butler averaged 15.7 points and 6.1 rebounds for the Golden Eagles. Butler was strong on the offensive glass, averaging 2.4 offensive rebounds per game in the rugged Big East.
The Bulls traded the No. 28 and 43 picks along with cash considerations to Minnesota to move up five spots and select Mirotic.
In his first season with Real Madrid's senior club, the 6-10 Mirotic averaged 8.1 points per game in 29 league games and 6.6 in 20 Euroleague contests.
ESPN's Chad Ford rated Mirotic as the fifth-best small forward in this year's draft class
W/Much better stuff available, we traded a 1st and 2nd to move up and get a euro stiff who cannot score 8pts per game....and then got another forward. Bad, Bad draft.
Reggie Jackson, Jordan Hamilton, Marshon Brooks, JuJuan Johnson, all better options then a guy that is in a 2 yr contract in Europe who cannot break 10pts a game there. These guys won't make the team, and the Euro will never even get signed.
I think I'll go throw up now.

Nikola has played many great games since then, but he has not done anything even close to what he did in January 6th, 2009. Mirotic destroyed the stats sheet in the NIJT Hospitalet game against FMP with his monster numbers: 35 points, 23 rebounds, 9 steals, 6 blocks, 9/9 from the field, 1/1 threes and 14/14 free throws for an overall ranking of 84.

Jorge Garbajosa. Poor man's Dirk Nowitzki (obviously there will not be another Dirk, but similar styles).

We needed a big guy that could creat his own shot/finish around the rim and every player on this team needs to play D, except Korver apparently. This was about no money on the books. again, he'll never be on this club.

NBA projection:
Butler is projected as a shooting guard/small forward, and if he sticks on an NBA roster, it'll be because of his ability, and willingness, to defend. He guarded all five positions at various times during his college career, and though that won’t happen in the NBA, he has the potential to be a lockdown guy on all three perimeter spots. He jousted against the likes of super-quick points Kemba Walker and Tu Holloway in college and did an effective job.
2010-11 Season:
Butler earned honorable-mention All-Big East honors for the second straight season after finishing second on his team in scoring and rebounding and helping lead the Golden Eagles to the NCAA Tournament’s Sweet 16. He carried his solid play into the Portsmouth Invitational, where was chosen the MVP. Butler averaged 18.7 points in three PIT games and was 20-of-31 (.621) from the field and 18-of-18 from the free-throw line.
