Good, I hope he feels like shit

His bosses are in jail, Paterno's not....yet. Paterno gets candlelight vigil's, his superiors don't. He's not been made a scapegoat, but he is being held accountable. IMO the university needs to clean house in that program. Watching them play yesterday, I heard the announcers say the interim coach had been there since 1979, and I found myself wondering if he knew about it too. That poor guy's not getting a shot at his dream job now. He's screwed. The whole thing just sucks, but they have a long way to go in cleaning this up and it starts by getting rid of everyone.

THe board had a choice to make, keep Paterno and piss of the side that feels he had a moral obligation or fire him and piss off the football fans. Morality > football. they weighed this out and and acted accordingly and swiftly. Fortunately, the team gets to keep playing.

His supervisors ARE getting the blame. Stop acting like JoePa is shouldering all this by himself. The only... ONLY... reason anyone is defending him is because of who he is. You say he's being the scapegoat because he's well known? I posit that the ONLY reason he has any defenders is because he is so well known. Nobody would be defending any other no-name.

And if he feels like shit at the moment, that's on him. He had a chance to stop the continuing rape of 10 year old boys and he failed to do so. Cut and dry. He "reported" it.... and then a couple days later when there had obviously been NOTHING done about it (no firing, no "scandal", no anything.... everything back to normal), he... went back to work and didn't say a damn thing.

But... "He reported it". Yea, JoePa!

Just imagine how much better it would be if he had actually reported it to someone in a position to do something about it.

The fact that it is Penn State means nothing.
The fact that it is Joe Paterno means nothing.
The fact that, at the time, there is a suspected pederast means everything.

Oh, he'll not get any jail time. He "did" everything the law required him to do.

For some, that is sufficient. I'm sure Sandusky appreciates that everyone only did the minimum required.

Do conspiracy charges apply to this type of crime? If they prove cover up, and he had knowledge of it, could he be convicted of conspiracy?

I'm thinking it would be difficult, in a court of law, to prove he had knowledge of a cover-up. Certainly, he had knowledge of the buggering (at least what little he may have been told of), but thats different from knowledge of an actual attempt to cover it up.
