Hossa needs to hurry up and heal.
We need Hossa back in a big way as well as some of these other guys to start to play up to their paychecks.
Can someone please tell me WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THE HAWKS?
That's a great question little bear. I've watched quite a few games this season and there's not one reason, it's many.
Here's my list:
- A lot of new players that are still not 100% comfortable with where assignments
- Defensive zone turnovers by both defensemen and forwards
- Not winning the battle of the boards at both ends of the ice
- General lethargy in their play
- Toews off to a very slow start and I don't mean just scoring. He and Kane don't seem to be playing with a lot of intensity.
- Hawks not getting to a lot of loose pucks in front of the opposing goalies
- Overall, they just don't seem to be playing with a lot of energy. I don't know if it's due to the short off season or whether it's because they are facing opponents best efforts, but they look "slow". And they are not a slow team.
This team has a lot of talent. The players on the team that replaced the departed are talented, so I expect this team to play better as the season progresses. I've watched roughly 80% of their games and most of the players from last years team don't appear to be playing with as much intensity as they did all of last year. Could it be that the hunger is gone? Maybe, but I still believe the Hawks will go deep into the playoffs this year. The following are the players I feel are not playing with that intensity: Toews, Kane, Keith, Bolland and Brouwer. Brouwer has played better of late, but it's still inconsistent. One of the biggest disappointments for me so far has been Bickell.
Hopefully, last nights 5-0 win against the Oilers is the start of something big for this team. That was our first blow out win of the season!
I am going to let you guys be my eyes and ears for the games since there's no way in hell WGN will broadcast games down here in Tennessee, and they are only on Vs. and NBC a handful of times.
I live in Atlanta and use DirecTV to watch many of the games. I have not purchased the Center Ice package yet, but I have a Fox Sports package that allows me to watch Comcast Sports Net out of Chicago and all Fox broadcasts around the country. Some of the NHL and NBA games are blocked, but not all of them, so I've been able to watch 75% of the games so far this year.
Dagan, I highly recommend getting DirecTV and purchasing NFL Sunday ticket. The "ticket" is around $260. When I first bought it, the cost was only $150, but since DirecTV has an exclusive with the NFL for this package the cost has steadily increased. That being said, if you go to a bar to watch the games, you'll ultimately spend around that amount or more over the course of the season.
I used to have NFL Sunday Ticket up until last year. I could no longer afford to foot the bill since I'm currently a "poor college student". I may try to tighten up my expenditures and order it, but there is a good chance that the majority of their remaining games, with the exception of Detroit and Minnesota, will be televised nationally. As for the Fox channels, I only get Fox Sports South, Fox Sports Tennessee, and Sports South. When I've tried watching the Thrashers and the Hurricanes out of a sense of curiosity, they were all blacked out, as of course was CSN Chicago.
