hawks have $14 mill in space now, BUT need a goaltender, at least 4 forwards and 2 "D"men, so "some room" but not as much as you think at first blush, esp if sign any big Free agents it will shrink that numbr quickly to cap hell, figuring at leats 2 of the fowards will cost 3-4 mill/each and 2-3 for a back up goalteder, that's already $8-14 mill of the space taken and that's doing without any big names

http://www.capgeek.com/charts.php?Team=11 We need a backup goaltender. I think Crawford is fine. A backup wont cost too much.

http://www.capgeek.com/charts.php?Team=11 we re-signed Crawford and signed another goalie already to a guaranteed deal that we traded for last season. I think the big part of the cap will go to re-signing Sharp

How many more years do we have on Sharp? Can it wait while we fill other needed holes?

well you can re-sign him now and only negotiate between our team and his agent. Or wait until he is a rfa and let other teams set his price.

I'm not sold on salak as a true #2 yet... and while like Crawford, also not sure he is a 60-65 game + goaltender, and in today's NHL need that 2nd goalie to go 20+ games and that usually means $1.5-2 mill for him.
sharp is scheduled to make $3.9 mill this year, but a good point they will try and resign him longterm which prob adds at least 2 mill to his 2011 number after a new deal.. bringing i down to $12 mill for rest

he's actually a UFA not a RFA after this year, so if cant get him to sign early now, he's very likely gone

Unless it is a pure extension, keeping this years salary the same. Hopefully that is what it is, as that would help us out a lot.

good points on that but why would they guarantee Salak contract if they dont mean to have him as the number 2?
Its too bad we couldnt have traded Cambell last year we could have kept some of the guys we were forced to dump. Any ideas on who is probably to take Cambell spot on defense?

it would be like that but you still have to project the cap for years and not just think of year one of the contract. It wont help us get soemone on a multi year deal but it could help us add that goalie DB wants as our number two for a one year deal I guess.
