The suspension was made to guarantee he would miss the remainder of the playoffs. If they manage to win the first, second and third rounds and then the championship round and each reached the seven game max, that would equal 25 games, counting the four he missed from round 1

And if they get beat in the first round, he will miss the first quarter of the 2013 Season. Im more then happy to see that little bastard suspended, he deserved one, but the 25 games is ridiculous and is quite easily explained as Shanahan throwing the book at a repeat offender after handing out some weak suspensions in other series'.
The difference between the Hossa hit and the Schenn throat shot or the Boyle face-caving in not 24 games and Im sure anyone would agree with me there. As dirty as it was, at least the Torres hit was within the realms of a hockey play, while the other two actions were clearly intent to injure.

In some equally awesome news. The Team1040 (Vancouver Radio) were having their call in time, where obviously fans were going berserk about their teams upset loss.
In the middle of said call in show.... A Chicago Blackhawks fan calls in playing Chelsea Dagger loud enough that every word could be perfectly heard. Needless to say, the next hour of the call in show was gold.

I believe this is torres 4th suspension over the last 2 years which is justified. The goon does not learn and maybe losing 1/4th of his paycheck is a wake up call. Matt Cooke of the penguins seems to finally have learned his lesson of head hunting. Torres should have been ejected from the game for leaving the ice and launching himself at a players head. You can check a player without leaving the ice to make good contact. You can go back to last year where Torres took out Brent Seabrook with a shoulder hit to the head.

Thing is, is Matt Cooke has never been suspended anything even close to what Torres does. It is suspension worthy, but given similar hits and even players with ugly past incidents, the punishment does not fit the crime, seing as how this punishment is 2x longer than anything seen since the Bertuzzi incident. Its the consistancy, which boils down to Shanahan. If that Torres hit is worth 25 games, then Duncan Keiths hit on Sedin really should have been worth ~20 games as well. Shane Doan should have missed damn near this whole season and Niklas Kronwall would be bankrupt. Fact is, that Shanahan saw a great time to bring the hammer down and unless he starts doing the exact same thing to other players for identical hits, this would be completely off the charts for a suspension.
Rumour has it the NHLPA will be appealing this anyways.

The Hawks came out flying, and if it wasnt for Smith, this one could have ben over early. Great team defense by the Coyotes, and they are extremely good at sitting back and waiting for one mistake, and then making you pay for it.
Fun series to watch, goaltending was the difference... Chicago wont get too far with Crawford in net.

Can't beat a team with a hot goal tender. Couple of years ago it was us this time it wasn't. Crawford had a disappointing series.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.
