    Quebec to build NHL-style arena

Construction on Quebec arena set for September - ESPN

Quebec arena construction starts in September

QUEBEC -- Quebec City says it will begin construction on a new NHL-style arena in September.
Mayor Regis Labeaume says the $400 million arena will hold about 18,000 people, saying it would be comparable to the Pittsburgh Penguins' new building.
"Today, the dream becomes a reality," he said at a news conference Sunday.
The arena is expected to be completed by September 2015.
The Quebecor media group has the naming rights for the future arena and was granted exclusive rights to manage the facility.
If the city gets an NHL team, Quebecor would pay $63.5 million for naming rights, plus $5 million in annual rent. Without one, the company would pay $33 million for the rights and an average of $3.15 million annually for rent.
"There are no more obstacles ... no more uncertainty about the construction of the amphitheater," Quebecor CEO Pierre Karl Peladeau said at the news conference.
Labeaume says the city can proceed with the project after finalizing an agreement with Quebecor before a March 31 deadline.
The province and Quebec City have pledged millions in taxpayer money for the project.
Quebec lost the Nordiques in 1995, when they left to become the Colorado Avalanche.

The Coyotes should move there. Good hockey team that no one gives a rat's ass about.

Pheonix and columbus will be the next two teams to move, both have a non existant fan base and in Columbus' case this will be their third rebuild with one playoff appearance to show for it. You can hardly blame the fans for being fed up with that brand of hockey. Florida will also be quick to follow unless Talon can put a winner together. There is no reason why Florida shoukd have two teams when they can hardly support one.
Id like to see KC, Seattle and Quebec pick up these teams and make something out of them

Why did the Nordiques and Jets ever move? I thought hockey is to Canada as the NFL is to the US.

    $$$$$

I'm glad Winnipeg got their team first, but as long as the taxpayers don't get raped,
I'd like to see the jagoff Nordiques back up the 401.
The last time my Habs were consistently good, were the days they were pummeling those bag girls.

Before the cap world, alot of Canada's teams were leaving and Calgary and Edmonton were under threat to leave. At the time, Canada's dollar was much weaker and all players get paid in American dollars, making Canadian teams essentially losing a big profit margin. Those problems have since been resolved and that is why Canadian teams wont be leaving and you will start to see the return of alot of them.
