Both. Men to be Men. and as head coach, it's your duty to make sure that your Men, are being MEN. and not little tommie go cry babies.
Lovie Benched Tommie for not being a man. and everyone cried "how to you bench your star player?"
and in that VERY SAME BREATH, those very same fans cry about lovie not being a HC and motivating his team and blah blah blah.....

Motivation goes along with preparation and it's indeed even part of it. Of course the HC is responsible for motivating his players. If pro's didn't need motivation then why did comments like Vernon Davis' seem to bring out the best in the Bears defense and why did Ogun take the time to get in his face and let him know just what they thought of his comments before the game?
I don't care who you are it's just common sense that all people need motivation. To argue differently is just idiotic and wrong.
