Denver Broncos Orton gets contract extension!

The Broncos on Thursday made a move to the future, signing first-string quarterback Kyle Orton to a contract extension, the team said.

Orton is in his sixth year in the NFL and second with the Broncos. Last season, he recorded career high stats with 3,802 yards passing.

"Considering the labor environment, I'm aware of how difficult it was to get this deal done and am extremely appreciative," Orton said in a statement.

Ya they were stuck w/him; he's looked like a solid starter and the Brady Quinn experiment is finally over....said he was a bust in college and he's proven it time and time again. That leaves KO and Tebow, and Tebow for all the hype is going to need A LOT of work to fix his issues.

    LOLOL

When you are looking for a LONG TERM contract( orton looking for 4+ year , or maybe 6 like cutler just got) and all you get is 1 year, that is a really bad sign- and shows a team has no confidence in you long term

Orton was rewarded Thursday with a one-year, $8.8 million contract extension through the 2011 season, according to an NFL source.

FWIW they can cut orton after 2010 without much a cap hit- so really isn't an extension

Orton will get zero new money this year. All of that money will be paid to him next season with 5 million of it guaranteed next year. So yes, there would be a cap hit. We drafted Tebow to be the QB for the long term. Kyle Orton is the QB of the present though and he is a damn good one to have.

Hey mikey...can you help me understand something? I mean seriously. I want to laugh real hard at the "Tebow QB for the long term thing" but then you went and said Orton was a "damn good QB," so im having a real difficult time trying to decide which part to laugh at hardest, any suggestions?

And now is where Mikey will comment about Cutler's INTs:
