    Packers release Harris

Green Bay Packers' release of CB Al Harris called 'big picture' decision by coach Mike McCarthy

    By Rob Demovskyrdemovsk@greenbaypressgazette.com • November 8, 2010

If the Green Bay Packers were truly undecided about releasing Al Harris until Monday morning, then the play of rookie cornerback Sam Shields in Sunday night’s win over the Dallas Cowboys helped them reach their decision.

Or perhaps they felt Harris’ reconstructed knee wouldn’t allow him to play like the Pro Bowl player he once was.

Coach Mike McCarthy insisted it was the former, saying the decision was made with his team’s overall roster in mind, but if the Packers truly felt the 35-year-old Harris had good football left in him, it’s hard to imagine they would let him go, especially considering how hard they’ve been hit by injuries this season.

“This is not a physical decision,” McCarthy said. “This is a big-picture roster decision.”

I don't get why they would release him. After all, he would add to the team's depth.

he doesn't play on the DL so Angleo will most likely pass on him.

Sad to see him go. He was a great player for a long time for us. Never once caused any drama and pretty much embodied everything you want to see in your players. Plus he gave me one of the all-time best sports memories in the "we want the ball and we're going to score" incident with the seahawks.

Looks like Miami already snapped him up anyway. But they did let one of their CB's go....

Probably right, but he DOES play on defense, so I thought he might get looked at. Miami beat us there, though. Oh well.
