That's a question that I've long ponder. Why? Why subject the American public to more sleep after the tryptophan has worn off? The Lions suck; everybody knows it, and this year is going to be their seventh straight loss on Thanksgiving.

Because it is tradition. Same with the Cowboys.
Without our traditions, life would be as shakey, as...as... as a FIDDLER ON THE ROOF!
I get what you are saying, but honestly I'm enjoying the hell out of this game.
Yeah, this is a good game. I'm hoping Detroit can pull it off. They are looking good so far. Their defense is putting a lot of pressure on Brady.
They talked about how the Thanksgiving Day Games originated, and it turns out the Lions original owner back in 1934 was the one who brought up the idea of football on Thanksgiving.
Since he is the "founder" of the idea, it makes sense why they get the game every year.
At 24-17 it looks like the Lions might win this one. Beat the Colts one week and lose to the Lions the next. Will the Pats be able to endure the shame?
