Hey Claws here it is from NFL.COM...
The San Francisco 49ers announced late Sunday night they have fired coach Mike Singletary after 2 1/2 seasons at the helm.
Singletary was informed of the decision shortly after the team returned from St. Louis, where the 49ers (5-10) were eliminated from NFC West contention after losing 25-17 to the Rams. Owner Jed York confirmed the coaching change hours after addressing reporters on the mater in post-game interviews.
Defensive line coach Jim Tomsula will serve as interim coach in the season finale at home against the Arizona Cardinals. A news conference is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET.
"One of the greatest experiences of my life was having the opportunity to coach the San Francisco 49ers," Singletary said in a team-issued statement. "What made it so special were the players. They were some of the most outstanding men I have ever been around in my life. The coaches were truly professionals. I wish the 49ers nothing but the best. I am thankful to the York family for having given me the opportunity to be a head coach in the NFL. I am indebted to them for that. I am also thankful for the Faithful fans, I am just sorry I couldn't give them more."
Singletary and starting quarterback Troy Smith had a heated exchange late in the third quarter of Sunday's game. Singletary gave Smith one more series before benching him for Alex Smith in the fourth quarter.
The 49ers, who were expected by many to run away with the NFC West prior to this season, began 0-5 and will finish with a losing record for the seventh time in eight years. They went 8-8 in Singletary's first full season, then produced an unbeaten preseason this year only to drop their first five games. It was the franchise's worst start since losing seven in a row to begin a 2-14 season in 1979 -- in the late Hall of Famer Bill Walsh's first year as coach.
Tomsula served as head coach of Rhein Fire of NFL Europe in 2006.
Wonder if he could fit on DAA BEARRSSE somwhere...FIVE HEAD COACHES!!
Word around the campfire is this one may be coming up:
John McClain of the Houston Chronicle predicts that the Texans' entire coaching staff will be fired at season's end.
McClain believes that the Texans' collapse to a Tim Tebow-led team after a 17-0 first-half lead will prove the straw that breaks Gary Kubiak's back. Kubiak is 36-43 without a playoff appearance in five seasons with Houston. He's obviously turned around the offense since the days of David Carr and Wali Lundy, but the Texans' penchant for late-game implosions and Kubiak's allegiance to defensive coordinator Frank Bush may seal his fate.
Wonder if theres a place for Kubiak? SIX FRICKIN HEAD COACHES!!
if the Bears hire Singletary as a LB coach, then that would be 5 former head coaches on their staff. :)
For some it takes a few times to get it right. He's cutting his HC teeth in the NFL. I bet down the road he has the chance to be a stellar HC somewhere.
