    Eagles fire defensive coordinator McDermott

The Philadelphia Eagles have fired defensive coordinator Sean McDermott, according to a team source.
The Eagles do not have a replacement in mind right now and will sort through several potential candidates, according to the source.
McDermott's 21st-ranked unit had particular problems in the red zone. He was promoted to coordinator before the start of the 2009 season when legendary coordinator Jim Johnson was no longer healthy enough to coach.

Browns defensive coordinator Ryan interviews with Cowboys

Cleveland Browns' DC Rob Ryan appears ready to land on his feet with the Dallas Cowboys.
The Cowboys met with Ryan on Friday and both sides came away impressed, according to a league source. If Ryan joins the Cowboys, it would leave Arizona, Carolina, Denver and Cleveland (where Ryan is technically still employed) as the remaining teams still seeking a defensive coordinator. Dick Jauron is expected to be the Browns' next coordinator, while the Cardinals and Panthers continue to interview candidates.

Cowboys' John Garrett to stay as passing game coordinator

Dallas Cowboys coach John Garrett will remain with the team to serve as passing game coordinator, according to a league source.
Garrett, the brother of Cowboys coach Jason Garrett, interviewed this week for the Miami Dolphins' vacant offensive coordinator job. He was considered for the role, but the Cowboys preempted the Dolphins' decision Saturday by promoting Garrett, the source said.

49ers sign Stanford OC Roman, DC Fangio

New San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh began building his staff in earnest on Friday, hiring away three coaches from his former Stanford staff and a fourth from the NFL ranks.
The 49ers hired Greg Roman as offensive coordinator, Vic Fangio as defensive coordinator and Tim Drevno as offensive line coach. The moves were expected by Harbaugh, who received a five-year deal as San Francisco's new coach last Friday to replace the fired Mike Singletary.

Broncos point to 'wisdom' of John Fox

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- John Fox wasn't ready to hit the beach, the greens or the slopes after enduring the first double-digit losing season of his coaching career.
He wanted to jump right back into the fray after his dismissal from the this month, and the Carolina PanthersDenver Broncos were looking for just such a man to lead them out of their own misery.
Fox beat out Houston offensive coordinator Rick Dennison, who has deep Denver roots, and three other coaching candidates to replace Josh McDaniels, who was fired last month amid the Broncos' worst slide in four decades and the embarrassing Spygate II videotaping scandal.

Rob Ryan leaves Browns to take over Cowboys' defense

The Dallas Cowboys hired Rob Ryan as their new defensive coordinator, a league source confirmed Sunday.
NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora previously reported that Ryan and the Cowboys met Friday, and both sides came away impressed.
Ryan has one year remaining on his contract with the Cleveland Browns, but he wasn't expected to return after the team fired coach Eric Mangini and replaced him with St. Louis Rams offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur. Dick Jauron is the front-runner to take over the Browns' defense, La Canfora reported, although he's also in the running for the Philadelphia Eagles' coordinator job.

"Tricky" Dick Jauron? I hope he knows something about coaching up defenses because he didn't know his ass from a hole in a wall as a head coach in Chicago and Buffalo.

Lovie making it #2 would be deserving of an extension

Raiders promote Hue Jackson to coach

ALAMEDA, Calif. -- The Oakland Raiders promoted offensive coordinator Hue Jackson to head coach on Monday after he helped the team more than double its scoring output in his first year with the franchise.
Jackson will be formally introduced at a news conference Tuesday -- two weeks after the Raiders announced they were not picking up an option to keep coach Tom Cable.

Musgrave interviewing for Browns', Vikings' OC positions

The Minnesota Vikings, St. Louis Rams, Oakland Raiders and Cleveland Browns are among the teams still looking for an offensive coordinator after the Miami Dolphins agreed to terms with Brian Daboll and the Carolina Panthers agreeing with Rob Chudzinski for those positions, according to league sources.
Current offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell has not been let go, but the Vikings already have interviewed Josh McDaniels for the position. Atlanta Falcons quarterbacks coach Bill Musgrave will arrive in Minnesota tonight to interview, according to a league source. Musgrave will arrive in Minnesota from Cleveland, where he is interviewing for their coordinator job, the source said.
McDaniels was the first candidate interviewed by the Rams for their opening, but those talks have hit a snag, and the Rams could end up talking to Musgrave and former Vikings coach Brad Childress for their opening. League sources said it is not out of the question McDaniels lands with the Rams, but there are some hurdles to overcome for that to happen.
Baltimore Ravens consultant Al Saunders is a candidate to handle the Raiders' coordinating duties with Hue Jackson now promoted to head coach. Ravens officials expect that move to happen.
The Panthers hired Chudzinski, also a former Browns offensive coordinator. Chudzinski spent this past season as tight ends coach/assistant head coach for the San Diego Chargers, the club new Panthers coach Ron Rivera served as defensive coordinator for.

I can see Lovie becoming similar in the level of coaching production that Andy Reid has accomplished. If Lovie makes it to a second Super Bowl, he will have supplanted Reid in that area, though he would still trail him in wins and winning percentage.

Ex-Broncos coach McDaniels picked to oversee Rams' offense

ST. LOUIS -- The St. Louis Rams on Tuesday hired former Denver Broncos coach Josh McDaniels as their offensive coordinator.
McDaniels, 34, replaces Pat Shurmur, who was hired last week to be the Cleveland Browns' head coach.

"We are happy to announce that Josh will be a part of our staff," Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo said in a statement released by the team. "I've always recognized that he is one of the top offensive minds in the NFL. We think he is a great addition to our organization."

Panthers hire Rob Chudzinski to run O

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- One week after hiring Ron Rivera as their new head coach, the Carolina Panthers have added another former San Diego Chargers assistant coach to run their offense.
The Panthers on Tuesday announced the hiring of offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski, who worked as the tight ends and assistant head coach for the Chargers' No. 1-ranked offense in the NFL last season.
Chudzinski takes on the daunting task of improving a Panthers offense that ranked dead last in the league in a number of offensive categories last season under quarterbacks Jimmy Clausen and Matt Moore, including points per game, total yards per game, passing yards per game and red zone offense.

Vikings add two more veteran assistants in Davidson, Johnson

The Minnesota Vikings filled two more positions on their coaching staff Thursday, hiring Jeff Davidson to coach the offensive line and Craig Johnson to coach quarterbacks, head coach Leslie Frazier announced.
Davidson had been the Carolina Panthers' offensive coordinator the past three seasons after spending 10 seasons as an assistant coach with the New England Patriots and Cleveland Browns.
Johnson had been on the Tennessee Titans' staff for the past 11 seasons. He was the team's running backs coach this past season after nine years as Titans quarterbacks coach.
Frazier said the Vikings are "real close" to hiring a running backs coach, the lone remaining opening on his staff. A report Wednesday linked former Colts assistant Gene Huey with the Vikings.
Frazier also discussed the recent hires of offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave and linebackers coach Mike Singletary, and the promotion of Fred Pagac to defensive coordinator.

Mora withdraws from Broncos', Eagles' D-coordinator hunts

NFL Network analyst Jim Mora is withdrawing his name from consideration for the Denver Broncos' and Philadelphia Eagles' defensive coordinator jobs.
Mora was being pursued by both teams and spoke with officials from each. Mora also flew to Denver this week to meet with new coach John Fox.
Mora was the top candidate for both openings, a league source said Wednesday, and could have picked between the teams. However, he will stick with broadcasting at this time while keeping his coaching options open for the future.
Mora said he was "flattered for the opportunity" to discuss the openings, but at this time "it just wasn't the right fit" for him and his family. Mora last coached in the NFL in 2009 as the Seattle Seahawks' head coach and has spent most of life in the profession as the son of former New Orleans Saints and Indianapolis Colts coach Jim Mora.
With Mora now withdrawing, the Eagles are considering Dick Jauron, their secondary coach, for their opening, as well as recently fired Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator Bill Davis. Jauron also is a candidate for the Cleveland Browns'defensive coordinator job.
New Orleans Saints secondary coach Dennis Allen also is a candidate for the Eagles' defensive coordinator job, the Philadelphia Inquirer first reported before the team confirmed it. The 38-year-old hasn't been a coordinator at any level, but he has been with the Saints for five years, according to the newspaper.

Dolphins announce hiring of Daboll as offensive coordinator

New Miami Dolphins offensive coordinator Brian Daboll strayed from the lectern as he began to speak more excitedly. He chopped the air with his hands, waved his arms and clapped to emphasize a point.
Finally, he returned to the microphone.
"I'm ready to go to work," he said.
The animated Daboll actually appeared ready for kickoff. He was introduced Wednesday by the Dolphins, two days after their decision to hire him was first reported.
"When I left Tony's (Dolphins coach Tony Sparano) office late one night after a meeting, it was clear to me that was a guy I wanted to work for," Daboll said.
Sparano said Daboll brought several qualities that he and general manager Jeff Ireland sought as they remake Miami's offense.
