Rivera to be Panthers new Head Coach
The Carolina Panthers moved quickly to fill their head coaching vacancy, reportedly hiring Chargers defensive coordinator Ron Rivera.
Rivera flew to Charlotte on Monday for a second interview, this time with owner Jerry Richardson. The team is expected to make the hire official Tuesday, according to The San Diego Union-Tribune.

does this count as a guy to be the first from lovie coaching tree getting a HC job? or not since he moved on to another team first

I think Chico will have some early successes. Norv Turner will definitely be under the gun next season.
Arguing on the internet is like winning the special olympics, even if you win your still messed up.
Restore the roar!

How the hell would you tie him to the Lovie coaching tree? Lovie didn't hire him, or want him. First chance Lovie had to
In my opinion, the Panthers are getting a very good coach. How good he will be running the show remains to be seen. Anyone who knows anything would agree, the Panthers need alot of help.
Yet I expect some blowhard will be posting about how awfull the Panthers are after the first 4 weeks of Chicos first season. If it takes 4 weeks.

Chico is certainly a master of all things defensive. He knows 4-3 Cover 2, the 3-4, etc. Not many coaches have in their repertoire.
And might I add that I don't think there will be much of a topic of conversation between Lovie and Chico during pregame warm-ups next year when the Bears and the Panthers play?

I think it depends on what they do as an org. If they stay with the team as is but add a qb I think they can have a quick turnaround. If they start letting players go like stalwarts on that oline, D Williams, Steve Smith, and some of those key defensive guys yeah they are pretty screwed for a few years. They are a qb away on offense and a pass rush away on defense from a pretty good team. Their qb play last season was their main downfall

I don't really remember their offensive line being all that great. Every time I saw highlights of the Panthers on the tube, Jimmy Clausen was being flushed from the pocket and was under great pressure. They do have decent run blocking, but their pass blocking needs work.

Another former Bear takes over a crap team.... great way for them to start.
Hopefully his crap team does better than Singletary's for the 85 Bears might never get another head coaching gig.

Yeah, it all went down once they lost Omiyale. Now they are stuck with three pro bowlers who blocked for one of the best rushing attacks over the last 3 years.

So? Why not draft another running back and just run the ball 70% of the time until they can either sign or develop a serviceable quarterback?
