Denver Broncos Broncos hire new coach

Broncos hire former Panthers coach John Fox

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP)—The Denver Broncos hired former Carolina Panthers coach John Fox on Thursday to resurrect a downtrodden team.
Fox’s contract wasn’t renewed by the Panthers following an NFL-worst 2-14 season. He replaces Josh McDaniels, who was fired Dec. 6 amid the Broncos’ worst slide in four decades and the embarrassing Spygate II videotaping scandal.

The 55-year-old Fox went 78-74 including playoffs in nine seasons at Carolina. The Panthers were coming off a 1-15 season when he took over in 2002 and led them to a 7-9 mark in his first year before guiding them to the Super Bowl in his second season.
Fox arrived in Denver on Wednesday to meet with new Broncos chief football executive John Elway after his flight out of North Carolina was delayed three times this week by winter weather. He was the fifth candidate interviewed.
Denver is coming off a franchise-worst 4-12 season.
Elway wrote on Twitter in announcing the hiring Thursday that Fox “is a dynamic and proven leader who will energize our entire organization.”

Let me get this right, the Broncos/Elway hired a 2-14 coach? Why not keep the 4-12 coach they had? Seems to me that's a bit better IMO.

Well, in all fairness to Carolina...one reason they are so horrible is because they essentially gutted their team of any talent. We snagged Peppers AND Chris Harris from em, and thats just us.

Actually thought that the "Donks" would choose a HC from the offensive side of the ball. It seems that the rest of the town did as well with Rick Dennison the Texans OC, and a former Broncos LB from their heyday, being the top canidate. Fox is the safe choice. He's very experienced in the NFL (18 yrs I think) and known as a great defensive strategist. That's badly needed around here. If they don't rebuild the defense it won't matter who plays QB or RB they won't win pure and simple.

I think the other factor was that most, if not all, of the offensive minded guys knew that they would be inheriting a great unknown in Tebow and were probably less likely to want to hitch their careers to his star. Probably why Harbaugh wouldn't even return Elways calls. Fox won't mess with that because he knows better and he's bringing in his own OC and QB coach to insure that Tebow's development gets the attention it deserves. At least that's the consensus here in Tebow Town.
