RENTON, Wash. -- The Seattle Seahawks have fired offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates after just one season during which Seattle's offense ranked near the bottom of the NFL.
Bates came with head coach Pete Carroll from Southern California. Before serving as the Trojans offensive coordinator in Carroll's final season at USC, Bates was with Denver from 2006-08.
Bates was Jay Cutler's quarterback coach in 2008 when Cutler was a Pro Bowl selection, and he was considered a leading candidate last offseason for the Bears' offensive coordinator job that eventually went to Mike Martz.
The team confirmed the firing late Tuesday morning. Bates' dismissal was first reported by NFL Network.
Seattle finished the regular season with the 28th ranked offense in the league. Seattle especially struggled running the ball, where they averaged just 89 yards per game in the regular season, almost the worst in franchise history.

I think Bates has a good offensive mind, joining the Pete Carrol circus was his mistake.
Maybe it's just karma?

They should fire the DC also, giving up 36 points to the Saints then 35 to our Bears in just two games.
10-7-07 Bears 27,Fudge Packers 20...12-23-07 Bears 35,Fudge Packers 7 Then Favre quit and became a Jet...

They should have fired Carrol, I think Bates was a surprise firing-he wasn't McDaniels bad.
Arguing on the internet is like winning the special olympics, even if you win your still messed up.
Restore the roar!

Not anymore, he signed on as St Louis' OC. McD is a perfect example of the "Peter Principle" and his incompetence as a HC was exposed in Denver. Now he's back where he belongs, an OC with no personnel management powers. Who knows, he may do well there and it's gotta be a good grab when you've got Bradford as a QB to work with.

I wonder if the Bears/Martz would have any interest in the guy as a QB coach?
