John Stone said that when he went to work Monday morning at Webb Chevrolet in Oak Lawn, he decided to wear a Green Bay Packers tie he's had for years to honor his late grandmother, a huge Packers fan.
Little did he know that the seemingly innocent gesture would cost him his job, Stone said. Stone said that when he showed up at work, general manager Jerry Roberts called him over to his office and then ordered him to take off the Packers tie or else he would be fired. Stone said he thought Roberts was joking and went back to work.
An hour later, Stone said, Roberts came to the showroom floor and again demanded he take off the tie. When he didn't, he was fired, Stone said.

http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com...man-fired.html The fact that the dude made a story out of it clearly indicates.......lawsuit.

and as a Company can have a 'dress code" and politely asked him to remove the tie or would be fired and he refused, not sure what grounds he would be on- His boss asked him to do something and he refused, that comes with consequences( and even told what would happen), and see nothing illegal about firing an emplyeee when he refused to do what was asked- doesn't matter if think its kinda ass-hat thing to do- its well within their rights

I deal with the god damned customers.

Yes, dress codes must be followed. But if it only says a tie must be worn and does not specify that "special" ties are not allowed, he will win the suit based on wrongful terminating of his job and possibly discrimination.
If it were a Bears tie, I wonder if the request/demand to remove the tie would have been made if the Bears had won.

well as the dealership has ties with the bears and does advertsing with the Bears, totally see why on an emotional day after a NFC loss, the owner/GM would ak him not to wear the tie- and they weren't firing him for wearing the tie, they are firing him for once explained he can't wear it, and will be fired if he doesn't remive it, he choose not to remove it

Story didn't include explanation that the dealership is a big Bears advertiser, kinda important info. The story isn't so sensational when the full picture is included.
