You know, I am largely anti-union, and I believe that one of the greatest days in the modern history of American socio/political economic history was when President Reagan fired those in the airline industry in the early 1980s who were on strike. He worked to destabilize the unions' hold on this nation's economy, and it fundamentally changed the nation's consciousness in the workplace for the greater good. That being said, I am probably siding more with the players right now in this lockout for a number of reasons that if I am asked to share, I will probably get my balls sliced and diced for speaking my mind in a largely disagreeable manner to the majority of the people on this site.

I agree that Reagan's move was right for that era but during the past two decades the pendelum has swung too far in the other direction. Sad to say but that's often the case in this country and not only in employment matters.
I've never been a union member and have never worked for a unionized entity, public or private, so if I do support a particular unions position it comes from my perceptions of the fairness of the issues being bargained and not just from conditioned response.
Labor unions have done a lot of damage to this countries competitiveness in world markets at times but so has corporate greed had it's affect on denuding business of much of it's middle class. I love being self-employed and only having to negotiate with myself, LOL.

And keep in mind, too: what labor unions did decades and even over a century ago during the Industrial Revolution and the Populist movement were key essential ingredients in getting the American people the fair working wages and hours that we enjoy today. However, I now feel that the usefulness of organized labor unions has run its course, and thus it is my opinion that they are now obsolete.
