April 28-30th, 31 days more after today.
Solder scares me a little because of the technique issues I see on tape and at the Senior Bowl.
But if we looks at the facts he becomes more appealing,
-He appears to be the only OT in the class with an ELITE ceiling, where everyone else carries and solid grade.
-We have the best OL coach in the country who worked wonders for a prospect that is even more raw in J'Marcus Webb.
-At 6'8" 319lbs. he has the physical make up to be a monster in the league.
-From everything I have heard he is an exceptionally hard worker and intelligent kid.
He reminds me of Patriots 2nd round pick Sebastian Vollmer. He is raw but has everything, including the work ethic to dominate and Vollmer is dominating for the Patriots.
I would not be shocked if the Bears made a move into the early 20s to draft Solder.

I would be since he'll probably be there in the late 20's. He's a project with an upside but not what we need now unless JA think we can nail down the LT spot in FA or Tice is convinced Williams can handle it this year. That spot has to be improved now no ands, ifs or buts.

I had a brain fart.
I mean, I would take Solder if there was no one else left in the first round to take simply because I am that desperate to get a LT and there are very few, if any, really solid ones available through free agency. Also, all the scouts are saying that he is a very raw talent, and that usually means that it will take at least a year to cultivate that talent into something that would be forceful. Frankly, I am afraid that he will turn out to be another Chris Williams: very talented, but when he appears not to totally find his comfort zone right away, he will get shuffled through the lineup and, ultimately, down the depth chart. He might even be considered a wasted draft pick before it is all said and done.

We can't afford to be desperate, we can only afford to be smart.
