Cowboys to draft Mike Pouncey?
Florida center Mike Pouncey visited the Dallas Cowboys' Valley Ranch facility Wednesday and tweeted that he expects to wear the silver and blue next season.
"Headed back to Pittsburgh ... would be shocked if i wasn't in a dallas uniform nxt year! The draft is april 28th so we will see ... To all the steelers fans i would love to be playing for the steelers and if i had a choice i would but it isnt my choice," Pouncey posted on his Twitter account Wednesday. Pouncey's twin brother Maurkice, also a center, was drafted by the Steelers in the first round of the 2010 draft. The Cowboys have been projected in several mock drafts to take either USC tackle Tyron Smith or Nebraska cornerback Prince Amukamara, but two recent mock drafts conducted by ESPN's Todd McShay and Mel Kiper, respectively, have the Cowboys taking Smith. However, McShay has Pouncey going to the Miami Dolphins at No. 15 while Kiper has him going to the New York Giants at No. 19. It would be interesting if the Cowboys do pick a center/guard over a tackle. Despite going to the Pro Bowl last season, center Andre Gurode has knee issues that concern the organization, and left guard Kyle Kosier is a free agent. While Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones and coach Jason Garrett would like to bring Kosier back, his age -- he turns 33 in November -- could be cause for concern. Pouncey would certainly allow Dallas to get younger at the center position. Meanwhile, Leonard Davis is the other guard, and while he didn't have his best season, it seems likely he would return in 2011.

The only way the Cowboys take Pouncey is if they trade down on draft day. There's no way they take him at #9 when an OT like Smith is still on the board. In fact there aren't any Oline guys in this years draft rated to go as high as #9. I wouldn't just be surprised if they took him that high. I'd be dumbfounded.
Thanks for the post LB.

I know there are probably better out there, but I like what Pouncey brings in terms of Versatility. we NEED a Center for the future, and starting him at guard next to Kruetz would do 2 things.
1. shore up a need position.
2. Groom Kruetz's replacement.
I think if we get a shot at him he'd be the best option for our 1st round. but that's just trying to get the most bang for you buck, not so much getting best guy on the board.

I'd take either Carimi or Liuget before him if only because I can get decent OG's and Centers anywhere from rounds two to four. But if both of them are gone I'd take Pouncey before anyone else. To me he'd be the top pick left for us then.

Pouncey to Cowboys? Offensive lineman singing like a bird
Put me in the "skeptical" category regarding Mike Pouncey's tweet that he expects to be drafted by the Dallas Cowboys. The vast majority of prospects have been extremely tight-lipped about their pre-draft visits around the NFL -- just as they were about their team interviews at the NFL Scouting Combine -- or in revealing any information about what teams have told them. For the most part, prospects have left it to the teams to reveal details about visits. One prospect told me he didn't want to say which teams he was visiting "out to respect for the others." That's what makes this part of some recent Twitter messages from Pouncey a bit hard to believe: "Headed back to Pittsburgh ... would be shocked if i wasn't in a dallas uniform nxt year! The draft is april 28th so we will see ... To all the steelers fans i would love to be playing for the steelers and if i had a choice i would but it isn't my choice." Pouncey, a former standout center/guard at the University of Florida and a projected first-round pick, could have simply offered an innocent and honest view of how his conversation(s) with the Cowboys went. At least, that's how he explained it in a later tweet responding to some of the backlash he presumably has received. "i dnt see how my tweet was a mistake i visit with a lot of teams and dallas was a great time," Pouncy wrote. Or, perhaps, he could just be having a little fun with the countless fans hanging on every draft-related word (or tweet). Pouncey presumably would like nothing better than to join his twin brother, Maurkice, a Pro Bowl center as a rookie for the Pittsburgh Steelers last season. His most recent tweet notwithstanding, that still could very well happen.

Maybe he's playing like a woman who interested in you but first dates a friend of yours just to get your attention and increase your anxiety over it. Pouncey wants to play with his brother in Pittsburgh so he makes a comment about his interest in the Cowboys and theirs with him.
Dallas picks at #9 and we all know there's no way Pouncey goes that early. Pitt picks at #31 which is just about the range we would expect him to go in so he does a little self promotion lightly sprinkled with some deception in order to get Pitt to move up and take him.
Based on what we know the Bears are very interested in him and may well take him instead of Sherrod if Carimi and Liuget are gone. Tice already made some comments in evidence of this. So Pouncey puffs himself a little by indicating that the team with pick #9 is very interested and that's where he thinks he'll be picked. After the Cowboys bypass him he's still elevated the perception of his value if he can even get teams to THINK he may have gone that early.
He hopes that Pitt will trade up in front of the Bears to take him. He gets to play for the team he'd prefer to play for and at the same time enriches himself with a slightly bigger deal than he may have gotten at #31. I'm not saying that's what he's doing but that scenario does fit.
