Nick Barnett on his way out?.................

    Fri Apr 08 05:42am EDT
Packers plan to dump LB Barnett?

    By Mark J. Miller

Linebacker Nick Barnett(notes) has been with the Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers since he was drafted in 2003 and now has 787 tackles and nine interceptions to show for it. But NFL.com reports that Barnett's time in Wisconsin may be over. But no trades or releases can be made till after the lockout is settled. Barnett has two more years on a six-year, $35 million contract, but he broke his wrist in Week 4 last season and the Pack signed linebackers A.J. Hawk(notes) and Desmond Bishop(notes) to new deals before the lockout. And poor Barnett can't even "discuss anything football-related with Packers coach Mike McCarthy or anyone else in the organization" until the lockout is over, the site points out.

"There's a lot of uncertainty, to be honest," Barnett told ESPN Radio Milwaukee, according to NFL.com. "I am under contract with the Packers two more years, but there's been talk of trades -- not necessarily directly to me -- but we'll see what happens. I know I'll be playing football. I'm probably in the best shape I've been in in the last three years. And super hungry and excited to play. I would love to finish my career as a Packer and retire as a Packer."

Has Barnett seen his last days in the green and gold? I never thought the guy ever played up to the level expected. At least that was my impression of him. Can we add LB to the Packers offseason shopping list Loki, Evernight?

LB was already on our shopping list, but definitely not a big priority. Barnett was good a few seasons ago, but now all he does is run his mouth and celebrate tackles after the ball carrier has gained 85 yards. Bishop and Hawk both played well for us at ILB, so Barnett isn't going to be missed. I expect we'll look to find someone to line up opposite of Matthews at OLB if we're looking for anyone at the LB position.

I expect Oline, Dline, kick return (if they want, they can trade a draft pick for a non-retard special teams coach), WR, and maybe CB to be our primary focus.

A win/win for bear fan soul.

personaly, like you, think barnett an over-rated mouthy LB that isn't worth his contract, and one of my fave moments was the ref pushing him to the ground..lol

So either they have a disgruntled inside linebacker riding the bench for $5.5 million and causing problems OR they trade/cut him and need to take a little under $2 mill cap hit for his unamortized SB left..giving them less cap room for 2011

I never liked the guy anyway. But then there aren't too many Packer players that I do like except for maybe Rodgers and Matthews. But with Barnett it was more like a very strong dislike. I think the Packer defense will actually be better off without him.

We did get better when Barnett went down. Bishop and Hawk came in and played very well in his place. Barnett can be cut on the spot as far as I'm concerned.

I would not mind seeing the bears pick him up if available.

No thanks. He's one guy I'd much rather play against than with.

If you want a douche with a much bigger mouth than play ability on your team by all means, sign away! Give him a 7 year $50 mil guaranteed contract while you're at it.
