Lockout Lifted Free Agent List [CBS Sports]
Posted by Andy Benoit
The lockout is lifted…for now. The NFL will file an appeal with the Eighth Circuit Court on Tuesday seeking an immediate stay. If that stay is not granted, the 2011 League Year will begin.
With the absence of a new CBA, the 2011 League Year will almost certainly be under 2010 League Year rules. That would mean no free agency for players who do not have six years of accrued experience. Thus, like last year, a large portion of the top-flight younger free agents will not hit the market, but instead, will remain with their current club after being tendered as restricted free agents. RFA tenders were issued before the lockout. So were franchise tags. As you're about to see, this significantly decreases the quality of the 2011 free agent pool.
This in mind, here is a list of the noteworthy players at each position who will be available on the open market as unrestricted free agents. (The players are listed in no particular order, though the better players are listed near the top.) If a player’s name is not on the list, it means he’s been tendered as an RFA or franchise tagged. This list does not include the small number of veterans who are still under contract with their current team but are all but guaranteed to be available at some point (such as Donovan McNabb, Vince Young, etc.) It also inlcudes recognizable players who were not given RFA tenders (though there were very, very few of them).
