Sarcasm and wit get people everywhere in this life.

Still, as I think every game is a crucial situation, even in baseball, I would have approached the game against Green Bay in Week 17 as a "must win" affair. I remember being physically by the middle of the third quarter because we had essentially given up on the running game that had been so productive for us the previous seven weeks, plus that awful time out call by Lovie Smith during the period after we had converted a 3rd and long play. When that happened, I knew that with our offensive line, which caused Cutler to get sacked like 6 times that day, would in all likely hood not be able to pull out a win. As far as tapping out, I think the Bears did in that game. We had that game in our pockets, but bad coaching reigned supreme and cost us the game. Matt Forte might have rushed for 150-200 yards that day against the Packers the way he was running. I have no use for that kind of strategic tomfoolery.

My favorite excuse that someone said was that we were resting Matt Forte for the playoffs. lol

I completely agree with the bold statement.

    Stoopid Lovie Smith.

Ding ding ding ding, we got a winner, the coaching cost us the game.

Coaching cost the bears the win. Motivation, stupid lovie decision to call a time out on 3rd and long was stupid. What was the point of that move by lovie to save 5 yards on 3rd and long. Jenius coaching decision on his part.

I'll throw in on this and say that I agree. Things like this are what turn me against him no matter how much he's appreciated by his defensive players. Despite his career won-loss record as the Bears HC he is still one of the worst game day coaches in the league IMO. His entire career is laced with other examples of poor decision making similar to these examples and he capped in with the decision to put Todd Collins in the Championship game after he'd already proven that he couldn't even be effective against Carolina!!!!!!!

Lovie Smith keeps saving his coaching ass by leading the team to the big show or it's door step often enough to save his job but if this team falls back to a .500 record for two years again then he needs to go. That's when his contract ends and he should not be retained.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

Lovie Smith is another Mike Ditka minus the fiery personality. His coaching methods are questionable; I personally think he's too soft, but then that's just me. Any other coach who would have played the Colts back in Super Bowl XLI would have beaten Tony Dungy. Maybe Lovie's love fest for Dungy gave away the game; I don't know. I do know one thing: in every big game he has coached and lost, the reason we lost was because we were OUTCOACHED, not because we didn't have the horses to keep up with the Jones'. I blame Lovie Smith's faulty coaching for our losses more than I do Jerry Angelo for making questionable early round draft picks, so in that respect 4th, I will have to dissent from your perspective. Usually when we lose, we deviate away from the power running attack that the Bears have long been noted for. It happened with Ron Turner, and now it's happening with Mike Martz. The fact that this has happened under two different head coaches should be noted. There are three things that can happen when you throw the ball, and two of them, throwing an interception or an incompletion, are bad. We have the horses to win the Super Bowl even with a shitty offensive line - it nearly happened last season - but we have to have a coach who coaches intelligently, and I often question whether Lovie Smith is capable of doing that or if he just wins because he has a bunch of scrappy, solid players who will lay it all down for him.
