Ditka won't let loyalty impact opinions

Former Bears head coach and Chicago icon 'Iron' Mike Ditka isn't letting his Windy City ties hold him back from voicing his honest opinions.

Not only does Ditka feel Calvin Johnson's catch in Week 1 vs. the Bears was legit, saying “The game in Chicago they got stolen from them. That should never have happened. I don’t give a (expletive) what the rule says. That’s a bad rule and it was interpreted wrong and it was officiated poorly.”

He also feels the Lions are poised for a strong season.

“They’ve got a good, young coach. They’ve got a good, young quarterback. They’ve got as good of a defensive line in football. They’ve got a hell of a receiver. They’ve got a good running back. They’ve got a got a lot things in the mix right now.” (freep.com)

The Great and All Powerful OZ has spoken, LOL. You may not like it but it is the rule and it was interpreted and called correctly. I don't argue that the rule shouldn't be changed but when that play took place that was the rule inforce. For those who can't understand why I called Ditka, OZ, this would be a good example. Great for a sound bite Mike but even your iconic status can't change a play or a rule just because you, Iron Mike, wish it so.

Well, at least he's a conservative. lol.

I seem to recall in week 1, just about all of us were saying CJ probably WAS robbed, but rules are rules, and by the rules, the ref made the right call. Should they change the rule? well thats up to the comp committee. But thanks Ditka for voicing something we all pretty much knew since it happened.

Ditka is a bombastic little prick. He lacks originality, and spouts out cliches like they are going out of style. Still, it's hard to not like the guy. He's the kind of guy you want on your side to rile the team up, to get them to go out and play their best football.

I think a lot of us breathed a sigh of relief when it was called incomplete because at that point we hadn't fully understood the rule and the basis for the ruling. Personally I think the rule should be changed although not in such a way that the ground can assist with the catch.

I think it is a stupid rule along with instant replay. I get tired of seeing the 10 different camera angles that make plays look different because the ball may be moving. Let the officials make the calls on the field and stick with them. It does suck when they make the wrong call but there are times they do make the right call and it get over turned becuase of super slow motion images.

You know that very rule was overlooked in the NFC Championship Game on the first Cutler inception? I think whichever Packers defender was guarding Hester at the time (might have been Nick Collins, though I'm not sure) caught the ball, but essentially trapped it. It should have been called an incomplete pass, but it wasn't.
