And as for extended seasons in other sports one only needs to see baseball highlights with half or 3/4th's of the stadium empty. Doesn't really convey that sense of excitement imo.
Have you checked out Yankee Stadium? Fenway Park? Dodger Stadium? Busch Stadium? Citizen's Bank Park? Fuck, Wrigley Field? Not every stadium is empty every night of the week, and most stadiums fill more of their seats on weekends.

The point is this: baseball doesn't need to fill every single seat with an ass to be successful. When you play 162 games per season, you can afford to slack off some of the time in total attendance. Baseball has a lot of people watch them on cable and satellite, so your claim that "baseball is boring, nobody watches it" is complete and utter bullshit. Might I remind you that more people watch baseball in a given year at all levels than the total number of people who watch football at all levels? It's a fact, and the fact that it is facilitated by 162 schedule makes the argument even more credible.

No offense. Just stating an opinion.

And the opposite is true for the NFL. NFL teams only play 8 games at home during a season, so it's crucial to them to fill up the stadium if at all possible. It's kind of like NASCAR, which is a once a week event. Football is an event and not a marathon, and therefore people are going to be more inclined to fill up stadiums in college and in pro football to see a spectacle that only goes on a few weeks out of the year.

And adding two games, prefferably one in the post season isn't going to change the spectacle of it. Your going to get more people watching b/c there will be more games played.

I'm not in favor of it for any number of reasons not the least of which is the added wear and tear on the players. You can only compensate for that so much by increasing roster size. The top guys are going to be playing 95% of the plays in 18 games rather than 16 and it will detract from their longevity in my opinion.

Another reason is that the season will all of it's playoff, Super Bowl, Free Agency, Draft and Training Camp hoopla is long enough. In any ordinary year tell me just how long what's going on in the NFL stays out of the press or off TV. Between the NFL Network and ESPN there are games or shows about pro football on 30 days per month 12 months out of the year already. I'd like a breather not a longer season and cutting back on two preseason prep games isn't a good idea. One maybe, but not two. Players need that warm up time before the big hitting starts so if you reduce their prep time you'll increase injuries as well. What's the difference? Teams charge the same ticket prices for preseason games as the do regular season anyway. So give the networks the rights to peseason for a small added fee and let them carry the games rather than local channels.

If it ain't broked don't fix it!

Starters aren't preping after the first two pre season games anyways...drop 'em. The more NFL in the press the better, I stop listening to sports radio after NBA finals are finally over b/c the only thing left is the MLB..and that is just awful.
