Report: Panthers WR Smith might be had for a third-round pick
Joseph Person of the Charlotte Observer reports wide receiver Steve Smith went to Panthers' management before the lockout to express his displeasure following a couple of frustrating seasons for the four-time Pro Bowler. Smith said recently he wants to play for a team committed to winning immediately, but would not say whether the Panthers were such a team.
At 32, Smith remains a big-play threat who could thrive in Panthers offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski's stretch-the-field system. But an unhappy Smith working with a first-year coach and quarterback might be more headache than it's worth.
The Panthers will try to get a proven player in return for Smith, who is due about $15million over the next two years. But a third-round pick might be enough to pull the trigger.

I can't stand this guy and ever since he humped our goal post in the playoffs I could care less about him. He has an attitude problem and I don't want him on our team if the panthers sent him to the bears with draft picks.

Between those two, Plax. Spending $15 mil and a third round pick for a guy whose best days are behind him isn't good personnel management IMO. That's a play for somebody who's trying to buy a Super Bowl Trophy and that's not the Bears. Plax would come cheaper and is more of what we need size wise.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

Hell, we already raided the Panthers defense by stealing Peppers and Harris, might as well go for the trifecta.

In that case, let's just give a 3rd for Beason...

Sadly, I wasn't watching the Bears so much back in 2005. I don't remember him bumping the goal post after the touchdown; this is the first time I've heard it. It seems reminiscent of the time Desmond Howard ran that punt back against Ohio State back in 1991 for a touchdown and then struck that Heisman pose. I wasn't really old enough to remember that play, but if I had been, I would have been PISSED OFF HIGHLY.
If Steve Smith could be had, I wouldn't take him. His name apparently lives on in infamy in the hearts and minds of Bears fans everywhere.
