James Harrison on Roger Goodell, Funny!......

The subtitle for this should be; "Tell Us How You Really Feel". He'll be lucky is he doesn't get fined again for these comments, hahaha. This wasn't real smart on his part but it's incredibly funny. I can't wait to read the whole interview.

In a bombastic interview that reveals just how much he resents the league office fining him repeatedly last year for illegal hits, Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison verbally assaulted NFL commissioenr Roger Goodell.

Harrison called Goodell a "crook," and a "devil," as well as an anti-gay slur, "stupid, "puppet," and "dictator," in an interview with Men's Journal.

“If that man was on fire and I had to piss to put him out, I wouldn’t do it,” Harrison said, per the Associated Press. “I hate him and will never respect him.”

A former NFL Defensive Player of the Year, Harrison was fined $100,000 last season. And he questioned whether black players are more heavily fined than white players.

Harrison said if the Steelers had won the Super Bowl he would have whispered to Goodell during the trophy ceremony: “Why don’t you quit and do something else, like start your own league in flag football?”

Harrison also took aim at teammates Ben Roethlisberger and Rashard Mendenhall for how they played in the Super Bowl, rips Rodney Harrison and Tedy Bruschi, says that Houston Texans linebacker Brian Cushing is "juiced out of his mind."

It's an explosive interview and a lot to take in, but it won't hit newsstands until August.
Just one thought: Harrison put himself even under more of a microscope with Goodell and he may have some fence-mending to do with teammates.

If Goodell is disliked by the players in general James Harrison seem to have a near pathological hatred of the man. I can see why he'd be upset considering all of the fines he accumulated last year but saying "he wouldn't piss on him if he was on fire" may be going a little over board. Not doing it is fine but you don't have to say it in public James, LOL.

I'm not sure calling out you teamates for their play in the Super Bowl was a great idea either. You may be considering retirement again sooner than you think. Knowing the Steeler organization this won't make them very happy.

Here's his gripes on "Big Ben". Typical defense vs offense kind of BS though. You'd think his anger over this stuff would have disappated by now rather than get stronger. The envy he has over Roethlisberger's paychecks and Polamalu's lack of fines is pretty obvious. This is really 2010 stuff and now it's time to forget that crap and play 2011. Given these statements he may be playing 2011 somewhere else other than Pittsburgh.

In an explosive Men's Journal interview where he lambasted NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, Pittsburgh Steelers hard-hitting linebacker James Harrison also lowered the boom on a teammate: quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. Roethlisberger threw a pair of interceptions in the Steelers' Super Bowl loss to the Green Bay Packers.

“Hey, at least throw a pick on their side of the field instead of asking the D to bail you out again," Harrison said. "Or hand the ball off and stop trying to act like Peyton Manning. You ain’t that and you know it, man; you just get paid like he does.”

Harrison saved some kinder words for safety Troy Polamalu.

“He’s the one guy in football I respect absolutely, ‘cause he’s spiritual and lives it like he talks it," Harrison said. "You know, he gets more flags than anyone on our team but never gets fined for nothin’. He’s so polite and talks so softly that he could tell he could tell Goodell to kiss his ass, and Goodell would smile and say thank you.”

Harrison says that shortening the season to 14 games would help to prevent head injuries. Maybe that's true but based on his comments in that article I'd say it's already too late for him. The brain damage already appears to be done and it probably permanent, LOL. Geez, somebody get this guy back on his meds.

The 2008 AP Defensive Player of the Year hasn't been shy about ripping the league after he was docked $100,000 for illegal hits last season. In the August issue of Men's Journal, set to hit newsstands Friday, his rants against Goodell reach another level of wrath.

If the Steelers had defeated the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl XLV, Harrison said, he would have whispered in Goodell's ear during the trophy ceremony: "Why don't you quit and do something else, like start your own league in flag football?"

Harrison also criticizes other NFL execs, Patriots-turned-commentators Rodney Harrison and Tedy Bruschi ("clowns"), Houston's Brian Cushing ("juiced out of his mind") -- and even teammates Rashard Mendenhall and Ben Roethlisberger for their performances in the Super Bowl loss to the Packers.

Harrison calls the running back a "fumble machine" for his fourth-quarter turnover. Mendenhall said on Twitter on Wednesday he didn't have a problem with what Harrison said "because I know him." But he also included a link to his stats from last season, which show he didn't have a pattern of fumbling.

Steelers President Art Rooney II said in a statement that he hadn't seen the article or talked to Harrison.

"We will discuss the situation at the appropriate time, when permitted once the labor situation is resolved," he said.

Harrison also questions whether a black player is punished more for a hard hit on a white player than the opposite. Beyond the insults, Harrison makes some serious points about what he believes are the league's misguided attempts to increase safety.
He explains how non-guaranteed contracts make players more likely to hit high, because in the short term, a torn knee ligament is more costly than a concussion.

Harrison suggests the real way to prevent head injuries is to shorten the season to 14 games, start offseason workouts later and trim the length of training camp so "we're not bangin' heads so much in August; that's where the brain trauma comes from."

logic says yes, but as of now there is no corrolation between head injury and more or fewer games. Your as likely to get concussed in a pre season game as you are in the SB. Also by that logic we should just knock it back to 12 James; expect that pay check of yours to shrink mightly though.

There isn't much logic involved in anything he's said in this article. Tearing apart Goodell when he can't officially do anything about it is one thing but ripping into your own teamated is something else. Harrison better hope like hell that he doesn't have to go before Goodell again this year. If he thought last years fines were bullshit they were nothing compared to what Goodell will slap him with now, LOL.

Ya dude is just dumb/crazy. It's not like that locker room is full of weenies either, he's not the only tough SoB in there.

The Steelers are a tough group of players, and they will get through this, though I would imagine that without a doubt, Harrison will have to have a come to Jesus meeting with the ownership, the coaching staff, and his teammates.

Well here's Mike Vrabel's take on it although since he's no longer in the NFL picture having retired in order to coach at Ohio State I really don't know how his opinion counts anyway. I gotta say that I agree with the author on this.

Vrabel: NFLPA doesn’t want James Harrison fined or suspended

He earlier vowed that he'd hold players accountable for their offseason conduct, which means that fines and suspensions could be in order for those players who have misbehaved.

The case of James Harrison will be an interesting one. He wasn't arrested and he didn't hurt anyone. The only rules he broke were the ones of basic human decency. When Goodell gets in one of his "I'm going to fine everyone" moods, will Harrison get one?

Via NFL.com, Mike Vrabel(notes), former linebacker and current NFLPA advocate, says that the organization "would have an issue" if Harrison is formally punished by the league.

"Roger's got big shoulders, Roger understands," Vrabel said. "I would say to Roger or anybody else that had a problem with it, I would say what Bill (Belichick) said to us: To (those who) much is given, much is expected. And Roger is given a lot in form of compensation and being in the situation that he's in so there's a lot expected of him. And if that means taking the higher road and calling James and trying to figure out how to get this thing settled between them or whatever issue they have going on."

I'm going to go ahead and disagree with Vrabel here. Is he actually suggesting that Roger Goodell call James Harrison(notes) and say, "Hey buddy, this is Roger, the guy you wouldn't pee on if he were burning alive in front of you. I really just want to get this thing straightened out and be friends."

It's not Roger Goodell's job to make sure James Harrison feels all warm and fuzzy inside. It's not his job to get along with James Harrison. It's his job to protect the league's image and make decisions for the good of the NFL. There's nothing to "settle" between Goodell and Harrison; there's only the league and what's best for it.

That being the case, I don't know how Goodell could see a player calling him a (homophobic slur that rhymes with "maggot") and posing with a couple of firearms as a good thing for the National Football League.

I'm not sure why it's OK (or even legal) for Goodell to punish people for their actions during a time when they weren't actually being paid, but if it's somehow decided that he can do that, then Harrison belongs on the list for punishment. There may be a point buried somewhere within his tirade, but the actual words that came out of his mouth are not OK.
