Eagles Ask Two 2nd Round Picks for Asante Samuel.....

But Eagles comfortable going into season with depth

The wild and quick trip through free agency taken by the Philadelphia Eagles has left the organization with lots of choices.

At cornerback, Philadelphia can go into the season with three Pro Bowl-caliber corners giving them the kind of depth other clubs would dream of. Or, the Eagles can look to make a move.

According to Mike Silver of Yahoo! Sports, the asking price for cornerback Asante Samuel is two second-round draft picks. Could a team negotiate the Eagles down from that mark? Maybe. But general manager Howie Roseman told Silver he’s comfortable going into the season with Samuel as a third behind Nnamdi Asomugha and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. Why wouldn’t he be?

But adding some value moving forward makes sense. Surely, teams with injuries will consider picking up the phone.

A ball hawk like him, on our D, would be most excellent.

Unless he plays WR or OL I would pass on him. The eagles were dumb enough to pick up 2 new CBs through a trade and FA signing when they already had a stud CB. Knowing Jerry Angelo he will keep his 3rd round pick he got for Olsen and trade it down for a couple of 4th and 5th round picks and then use one of those 4th round picks to trade down for a couple of 5th and 7th round picks. That 7th round pick will be used on OL again and the 5th round pick will be used on a qb.

I think the eagles know something we dont... Asante is what 30 this year?... he could very well be on the downside of his career and I don't wanna hear bears fans bitch about grabbing another over the hill guy even though I agree he could be an upgrade for the next year or two till we bring in some young proven guys who can take over.... Still... the fans of this team freakin CREATE crap to be upset about... and this has bad news written all over it.

I'm betting/hoping we stick to what we got, and try to bring along the guys we have with great potential in Corey Graham and the often beat up Bowman... and just look to the Draft FA next year to dry and grab some youth instead of another guy that doesn't have much left in the tank.

Well I know that Samuels has 16 ints over the last 2 years vs Asomugha who has 1 int over that last 2 years.

True but nobody throws at Asomugha so if you look at the number of picks versus the times they've been challenged on a percentage basis as opposed to just the number of picks that may change the perspective. Look at Asomugha's backfield mate in Oakand. Routt didn't have that many picks but he had 13 PBU's because they had to throw to his side of the field to avoid Asomugha.
