PHILADELPHIA — Seven former players have sued the NFL in Philadelphia over concussion-related injuries, the first potential class-action lawsuit of its kind.

The players accuse the league of failing to protect their health and of trying to conceal any links between football and brain injuries.

The players include former Bears quarterback and two-time Super Bowl champion Jim McMahon.

The suit accuses the NFL of negligence and intentional misconduct in its response to the headaches, dizziness and dementia that former players have reported.
The suit, filed Wednesday, seeks medical monitoring along with funds to pay for the care of injured players.

NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy says the league will vigorously contest the claims.
Lawyer Larry Coben of Philadelphia says one client may lose his home because of his health-related problems.

Think that this may be the first of many that will challenge what the NFL knew about head injuries and when they knew it.

Seems like the last few years every time there was an announcement that another "former NFL player", has died, the poor sod was aged 40 to 60 something.
I could be recollecting wrongly, and/or the media may be at fault for making those who fell between those ages, more prominently than others, but man... something smells bad.

The players will claim that the league was aware of these problems for years and did nothing about it and of course the league will "vigorously defend themselves againt those scurillous accusations", LOL. Should make for an interesting show.
