The Colts without Manning would struggle to go 8-8. Maybe a few years back when the overall talent was better they could have held it together but not anymore. The Colts have a shit load of money tied up in him and if he can't play it really hamstrings them offensively.

Which is why I don't get everyone saying he's worth the gargantuan contract he was given. It doesn't matter how good your QB is if the rest of his team is deteriorating around him because you can't afford to bring in players because of that contract. They didn't even have a decent backup as insurance in case he went down in a game.

Oh I agree. As long as there's a salary cap you can never have too much money tied up in any one player or any one position or what you're talking about has to happen unless you can get real lucky with younger players still playing under their rookie deals. That's why the Colts were doing the same kind of dumpster diving we were.
Actually it's not that bad a plan. If you can rent a talented player for a year or two towards the end of his career, or a younger guy you can extend you can fill holes pretty quickly around your draft choices. The guys who don't produce you cut the next year and those who do you extend. Not a bad way to supplement your draft if you can get the right guys.
Note: Roy Williams is not the right guy. LOL

Always beware of the unnamed sources tag
Heard this story last night on the local news. It wasn't as definite as this story makes it sound.
I will say this (being local and familiar with that show). JMV is a tool and has no reliable sources. This could very well be true, but I'd be surprised if Manning won't be playing.
Colts to hold a press conference regarding this at noon. If there was nothing to it I'm sure they would have just come out and said "no, there's no procedure necessary." Where there's smoke...

That would be coach, singular, as in Mike Martz who so far has proven to be the worst evaluator of pro personnel the Bears have had since the days of Dave Wannstadt (damn I hate to even write the name). This is another Martz play and once again they gave into him, hopefully for the last time. No one but Martz expects to get anything out of the lazy asshat.
