    BBAO: Vikings mulling RG possibilities

We're Black and Blue All Over:

Most of the consternation surrounding the Minnesota Vikings' offensive line has focused on the left tackle position, where newcomer Charlie Johnson has made only fits and starts of progress and most recently allowed a scary blindside sack of quarterback Donovan McNabb in Saturday's preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks.

But Tom Pelissero of 1500ESPN.com points out another simmering issue: right guard, where the Vikings have started two different players this preseason and still aren't sure when presumptive starter Anthony Herrera will be ready to go. Herrera is nine months removed from surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament and predictably had a tough first few days back in practice last week.

Chris DeGeare started the first preseason game and journeyman Scott Kooistra started Saturday night.

The Vikings' first-team offense has accounted for three points in the first two preseason games. When healthy, Herrera is a feisty run-blocker who gets by on competitive juices and raw desire. It's clear the Vikings have planned for his eventual return, but the timing yet isn't clear.

Much like the Bears, the Vikings have essentially ignored their O-Line for a few seasons and are now reaping what they've sown.

This is why I'm taking GB or Det D's in fantasy....they're going in the last few rounds and get to play Chi/Minny 4x's this season. Shit they are going to rack up sacks in those games.

Probably a wise decision. Unless there's a miracle improvement, I would think that you're fantasy D is going to do just fine.

I think so. No reason not to jump on an obvious glaring issue and let the suckers take the top D's early.

Hey jokr nice to see you. Ready for another season?

Seems like both of our teams have forgotten that you can't build on Oline overnight you need to keep adding new talent every year and work them in behind the aging vets or guys who will outprice themselves in FA. We keep doing that with DE's and Safeties it seems but never with Olineman.

    Hey soulman...

I'm ready but I am not optimistic at all. In all likelihood, the Vikings steadfast refusal to address their O-Line will be their undoing this season. Consequently, I am not eager for this season to begin. Mainly, because like Favre before him, McNabb will probably be trying to create something from nothing when the line fails to protect him.

Disheartening and depressing, I know, but I can only speak the truth as I see it.

As important as an Oline is to the offensive success of a team you wonder why a team ever let's it fall in disarray. I'm royally pissed at the Bears for doing as little as they've done this offseason. I really feel Carimi is gonna solve some of the problems but you can't fix 5 positions with one guy.

It should be interesting to see what McNabb can do with a RB like AP in his backfield. I thought it was a good move picking him up. Have you heard anymore on the new stadium issue or is that on hold for a while? Haven't seen any recent news so I'm assuming the politicians are all on summer vacation.

Here's to a great season. We'll look forward to you checking in from time to time.

I like McNabb too. I just hope he's got something left in the tank so he can hold the fort until Ponder is ready to prove his mettle. It would really be a shame if Peterson never was able to ply his trade in a Super Bowl. Heaven knows, he's a Super Bowl caliber RB!
